Commenting on my post about Gannett's offshoring advertising-production jobs, a reader left this comment: "Does anyone have a figure of how many artists have been eliminated from all Gannett papers? What are the opinions of their work? Will Gannett continue to completely eliminate all designers? Or will this ridiculous off-shoring collapse in the months to come?"

In Westchester County NY they started by eliminating 3 advertising artist about 2 months ago. Things went smoothly so as of two weeks ago they were all eliminated. Not sure what that total number was. I'm sure the local advertisers would love to know that some of there customers, who use to be Journal News employees, can't shop at their stores because they lost their jobs to outsourcing to India. Way to be LOCAL LOCAL LOCAL.
ReplyDeleteI hope an accountant will answer this:
ReplyDeleteWhat has happened to advertiser credits at places that have off-shored ad creation? Are the indvidual papers seeing an increase or decrease in the credits they grant paying customer?
Anon@12:36 p.m. is misinformed re Westchester. The 3 number is accurate, but it's not true that all of the remaining artists have been eliminated. I know this because I said good night to one of them when I left work about a half-hour ago. It's also not true that things have gone smoothly. Of course, that probably depends on whom you ask.
ReplyDeletewait i am in the ad design dept in westchester,we lost 4 people and the nite people had to go on a 1 to 9 shift,i have a feeling that more people are going to lose their jobs, but when i don't know!
ReplyDeleteagain - how is the quality? and - define smoothly and how often THAT happens? also - what percentage of the ads are being outsourced? and finally what do the advertisers think of this latest change to their LOCAL newpaper?
ReplyDeletewhy won't any of us take a stand at what management is forcing on all of us (because believe me, in one way or another this affects ALL of us)? how about a STRIKE?
Gannett just keeps talking out of its ass!! With layoffs due to begin as of May 1st in Ad Design (NJ) Gannett decides now would be a great time to award the VP of Production a Presidential Ring!! The ad sales dept is giving away money, trips and even a brand new car for making budgets! Meanwhile back in Ad Design..pass the Kool-Aid
