10 states drove 70% of Gannett Blog visits

[Traffic central: Aerial view of headquarters in McLean, Va.]

Home to Corporate and to USA Today, Virginia continues to be the No. 1 source of my blog's visitors, according to new Google Analytics research. This chart shows the top 10 states during the past 30 days, and the share of overall blog visits each one generated.

  1. I wouldn't doubt that a majority of the originating source IP addresses start with 159.54...lol!

  2. Do you know what the network topology is for Gannett and how this might affect your site stats?

  3. I do not. But I know that ALL web analytics software produces at best highly educated guesses. Plus, based on your question, I suspect that some traffic that I think is coming from X may actually be coming from Y. Or am I wrong?

  4. What a shame. All that money that was placed into building that building and half the floors are empty with empty cubicals and offices! I'm sure they made some good money when they sold the baseball field, they had to pay Dubow his bonus.

  5. Hey Anonymous 6:40AM - yes they sold the baseball field, but there is a rumor going around that they are also going to be subletting other business on some of those empty floors...

They can always spin up another division to fill them 'em...(anyone say Digital?)

  6. @11:26: It's not a rumor; at least not if they can find someone willing to sublet under the shadow of The Great Stock-Melting Curse!

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
