Star Press reporter Nick Werner, 27, was interviewing a Ball State University student yesterday about hundreds of last-minute voter registration applications collected by Sen. Barack Obama's campaign, when the reporter and a Republican voter registration deputy, Will Statom, 56, exchanged words. "Werner said Statom made a sarcastic remark about his reporting while he was interviewing the student,'' the paper said today. "The reporter said he then told the Republican appointee to 'shut up.'" Statom passed Werner, witnesses said, then turned around and shoved the reporter into a wall.

I'm not a reporter, but if I were in the same situation and this Statom guy did not step back and mind his own business after I asked him to, I would have made sure he knew that I meant what I said. I'm there to do a job and I deserve that right just as he does to do his job. And if he would have pushed me against the wall...oh my my my -Insert what you would have done here- And I would have probably done the same thing. And I'd hope my editor and publisher would back me up.
