  1. I wish they would hurry up and just do this damn merger!

  2. Not going to happen. Readers and advertisers would reject it.

  3. They don't care about what the readers and advertisers want. They care more about what they want!!!! Consolidation of all three newspapers will happen.

  4. Consolidation will happen on April 25/26. It is a done deal. Anyone that claims otherwise is either a liar, or a tool of the higher-ups that don't want anyone else disclosing their "big secret". Why do you think Sherm Bodner called it a "hoax" last week? Discredidation through dismissiveness.

  5. They are going to consolidate on a Weekend? Doubtful.

Or maybe because it's not going to happen ...? Maybe there is no "big secret"?

I do hope you'll come back April 26 and admit you were wrong. Until then, keep stirring up the pot if it amuses you.

  7. Only time will tell who is right about consolidation. They may keep different mastheads, but it looks like all of the pagination for both Ithaca and Elmira will occur in Binghamton or wherever the offices are going to be located since Binghamton has sold their Vestal building.

Yes, this has been established and is happening all across Gannett, as Jim's blog reports.

That's not the same as the merging under one masthead, though.

    Hey, Elmira Confidential!

Nice to see that you have been compartmentalized like we have in NJ, but you're going to have to work hard at being nastier, more directly confrontational about management and others on the staff!
And don't forget about those pigs in McLean, Virginia! Try to work more on a Gannett world view of what the company is doing to break us at every turn.

    Love,
    NJ Confidential

I challenge you to go back and reconstruct the straw man that you have proffered. I don't see anything about common mastheads being part of the consolidation mentioned by the poster at 1:26. Perhaps you are reading too much into it, and if that is the case, I'm curious as to whether or not you are a newsroom employee who we would hope would have better reading comprehension than you display.
No where in 1:26's post that you quote will you find the phrase "merger", or "mastheads".
Consolidation will take place in the coming days whether you like it or not. When the pagination duties are handled in Binghamton for all three papers, that can easily be termed a consolidation, not quite so for merger.
The merger will happen sometime in the next calendar year, depending on market conditions and such. I won't make a prediction for when that will occurr, but you can bet dollars to donuts on consolidation of duties in Binghamton next week.
So, 1:58, will you come back with that snarky grin wiped off your face? Will you admit you that failed the reading comprehension portion of this discussion? Or are you just a hack for "the man"?

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
