Sinner? Saint? Sweetheart? Survey shocker!

A shocker that I milked one comment for so many thought-provoking posts about whether this blog has grown too nasty! Final, never-to-be-repeated-again-thank-you-very-much breakdown of 167 responses to the question: Gannett Blog is . . .
  • Too negative: 26%
  • Too positive: 3% (d'oh!)
  • Just right: 61%
  • I don't care: 8%

Note: Figures don't total 100 because of rounding.

See, also: How to make Gannett Blog (even) more constructive. You'll be glad you did!

  1. A thought: 26% is a lot of negatives -- even if Corporate drove up those numbers (and I don't know that they did). I do take this sentiment seriously; I only wish more editors would take me up on my offer to showcase their good work -- if they'd only send me links. But since making that plea on Sunday, I haven't gotten a single one. Anyone have any ideas on what's going on?

  2. You can't be all things to all people. That's especially true with a good blog, which has a solid point of view. The negative readers will continue to read because they won't want to miss out. But if you dial down too far, you risk losing satisfied readers and negative readers. Please keep doing a great job, and don't be dissuaded from telling the truth.

  3. You are right, no one takes you seriously. Negative is not the right answer, waste of time is the correct answer, or should i say gossip is the perfect answer.

  4. Telling the truth is what my entire career has been about. Now, be honest, Anon@3:56PM: Do you really trust the daily Executive Summary to give you a warts-and-all view of Gannett? Do you really expect the top brass to be truly candid with you about the company's prospects?

  5. We don't have to trust anyone. The industry is in trouble and we all should come together and figure something out soon, otherwise, we all know what the end going to be (you are living it).

I think your site can become an asset to all of the people who care about their jobs. We need ideas, we need plans. Sometimes I feel we are good pointing fingers, but we never admit to our failures. Let's talk about Google, yahoo, let's talk about how we can improve some of the initiative listed by Gannett. This is how we will get all to trust each others. We need to stop complaining and stay positive while contributing to the process.

We have lots of quality people, and we can build something very unique (but only if we are as good as we say we are!)

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
