Questions: Hiring? Jack Kelley whereabouts?

Gannett Blog readers asked me to post the following:
  • A Gannett editor says of GCI papers in his Midwestern area: "I was talking to a couple of fellow managers and we can't think of a single new hire in 2008. . . . I am wondering if this is company-wide?"
  • And a San Francisco reader asks: Whatever happened to disgraced USA Today reporter Jack Kelley?

  2. Jack's wife, Jacki, the head of advertising at USAT when Jack was fired, hung on in that capacity for a while. She left USAT a couple years later to become travel category development officer for Yahoo! in NYC. I heard that the couple sold their Reston, Va., $1,000,000+ manse and moved to Connecticut. Jacki was named exec. VP of media sales for Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia last year. Again, I heard second-hand that Jack is a househusband, raising the couple's daughter. I want to stress that I haven't seen or spoken to Jack since the day he walked out the door of USAT. I'm just relaying information that I have heard.

  3. Metromix locations are hiring ... I've added 3 FTE since 1/1 for a midwest gannett site. Two more in the works.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
