Some readers may wonder how much I've earned with the Google-served ads published near the bottom of the blue sidebar, right. Answer: bumpkis. I just checked my Google AdSense account, and see that my earnings so far total a whopping $36.40. (And that includes profits from a previous non-Gannett blog that I've put on hiatus.)You've got to have super-high traffic to make money as an independent blogger. Instead, I support myself with biweekly USA Today paychecks under terms of my January buyout. (My mother wrote me in a recent e-mail: "The poor brass, thinking, God! And we're paying this guy for 40 weeks while he sticks us.")
