  4. Jim,
I would nominate you for a President's Ring, but since those awarded for excellence in mediocrity and meritorious achievement in backstabbing, I won't.

  5. The Blog...complain-a-thon! Good riddence to people who don't have a desire to make things better but only to complain that 'the good old days' don't exist any longer. Do some work and help those who are making an effort to survive. Or, if you are so smart, provide a newspaper model that will work with a crappy group of employees like those on this Blog! (I'm not a Gannett executive so bashing me does no good)

    1. Survival is the objective for many, if not most, for obvious reasons. Unless you're a kid, scraping by and loving it. Gannett likes cheap labor.

5:21 You mean a "complaining-about-the-complaining-a-thon!" Good "riddence" (lulz) to those who ridicule others' intelligence/competence while being unable to spell C-A-T! :)

And you have shown your lack of grasping what the real problem is- it is a r-e-v-e-n-u-e problem. Management can change the content side all it wants. But until the brilliant thinkers in the Crystal Palace come up with digital revenue model, it won't earn revenue under an outdated model. The 19th century advertising model is dead. Enjoy working the checkout line at Target, 5:21, because that is where you and your outdated thinking belongs

Is there a market-by-market rollout schedule?

  7. Jim, did you ever cast about to look for someone to take over for you?
Thanks for your service here. You provided a lot of news, and offered a good venting spot for those committed journalists frustrated with a soulless company.

    3. 8:37 I did not. But anyone can start a blog about Gannett own their own.

  10. It is actually news. Jim, you might actually read the article before simply nuking it.

  11. Here is it again... In light of your article where Gannett sued employees for competing against them, I thought it balanced to show where Gannett wields license over competition, if one is so inclined to actually read the article (ahem...).

  13. Jim,
I have read your blog for a lot of years. You gave me notice when we lost so many people in 2008 and heads up on the "early retirement" option. I have finally found another job and there is life after Gannett. Wish you the best.

  14. I won't be the last to say this, but farewell and good luck. You've honored your profession.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
