"As Coachella Valley's premiere reach vehicle for those looking to market their products and services, we are strengthening our connection between content, consumers and advertisers."
-- Publisher Mark Winkler and Executive Editor Greg Burton in a letter to Desert Sun readers in Palm Springs, Calif., announcing plans to add a new local edition of USA Today. Starting next Sunday, the Sun becomes the latest daily across Gannett to be pulled into the Butterfly Project.
These letters to readers too often read like a memo written for Corporate, summarizing all a site's recent accomplishments.
ReplyDeleteSo true. Unfortunately, this reach vehicle looks more like a demolition derby entree.
ReplyDeleteIt's premier, Mark and Greg. Did anyone edit your words?
ReplyDeleteIf they follow the same plan there as in Appleton, the sports section will get larger while the space for local sports will shrink.
ReplyDeletePremiere instead of premier. They need to strengthen their connection to a dictionary.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the best collection of words since "Jabberwocky". Or "Dare To Be Stupid".
ReplyDeleteWhat do you expect from a company that once made everyone start calling their newsrooms "Information Centers"?
ReplyDeleteI am a PS resident. Doesn't bother me. Better World and Finance news. Works for me. Not sure why you all see it as a negative. Isn't USA TODAY a Gannett property?
ReplyDeleteThis bunch sees everything as a negative.
DeleteGannett is the only newspaper company I've seen that issues press releases in jargon rather than plain English. Maybe that's part of the new media strategy.
ReplyDelete*among (not between). I mean honest to God you just can't make this sh#t up....

DeleteGeee, I've always wanted to work for a "reach vehicle!" Hope the wheels don't come off.
ReplyDeleteOh, the lengths these new wave administrators go to to avoid using that dreaded word "newspaper."
