    1. What we'd really love to see (assuming Springer's not available) would be for them to haul their favorite bogeymen into court—that is, one of those trashy kangaroo courts on TV. Let Judge Judy decide the merits of their case! Now, that would be classic.

In Palm Springs, people who subscribe to the Desert Sun are now going to get USA Today whether they want it or not. Nice way to prop up a barely relevant publication!

  4. Later or sooner, the other shoe may drop. Then what will they say?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Since Usa Today continues to sink in quality, content, news judgement, writing and presentation, this is the only way to save circulation.

What has happened since the price doubled to $2 ?

    1. We settled on a 40 % loss. That said the know it alls who do draws still put them out like before resulting in 30 + % returns.

    2. is that number real? How can they keep staff with those losses? Ads suck, too.

    3. Sorry. Hadn't checked lately. Now returns around 45-50%. Here at FT we're also running high on FT draws and returns on Wed. and Sun. I think they are being used in creative accounting/sales numbers for pushing certain ads/inserts.

Interesting Post-Crescent headline. Wonder when they'll fix it?

  7. Perhaps this "battle" between police and fire is just fallout from the annual police and fire hockey game?

  10. LOL. TV news is not very challenging either. Frankly, I think the quality of "reporting" has gone down universally across all media companies. No one wants to take a risk on investigative journalism, which once provided a check-and-balance for our society's politics.

    1. Yeah. What's with J-schools these days? What kind of journalism do they teach? Complacency 101?

  15. I read this and couldn't help but to think about Gannett's management. As you read this, think about who belongs in these five categories. I can match the entire so-called sr executive committee to each of these. But, it will be fun to see what everyone else thinks.

    2. A few weeks ago I read a post about the integration of "kirkarts" group into GPS. We actually have one of Kirkarts people here in Albequerque and had nothing but problems with them. I looked into the woman's background prior to her years working for Kirkart, and her background isn't checking out. I totally understand the frustration that everyone else feels with that group.

    3. What does everyone else think? We think we'd love to have as much free time as some people apparently do.

    4. That's what happens when there are issues with people and questions are raised. It doesn't take much time to uncover the truth. Sometimes its necessary to find out "what the story is" when there are problems. Sounds like the got "found out'.

  16. 5:38: I also had the same thoughts about experiences at our print site. I had a discussion about the history of Kirkheart's group and it seems there were extreme problems.

  19. I remember this. Lori Arnold was distributed in Albequerue.

  20. She's in Albuquerque? I didn't think Lori Arnold was still with Gannett.

  23. Just report it to Gannett or the police. The were many issues and complaints. These problems need to be addressed and those that the bottom are only bullying others into submission. This group was a problem and if you witnessed anything criminal go to the police and file a report with them.

  24. I agree with 5:35. Think about all that has occurred and report it.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
