  2. Bruce Klink, vice president/finance of the Indianapolis Star was let go the same day as the Journal and Courier publisher. Apparently, the two were part of a group of well paid drones given their walking papers that day. Karen Crotchfelt, Star Publisher and a member of Dickey's West Coast mafia delivered the news herself. Prior to Indy, Klink was Gannett's vice president of finance for the entire newspaper division.

    3. 6:10 This would have been in late July or early August. That's when Gary Suisman retired as Journal & Courier publisher in Lafayette, Ind.

  3. At a salary approaching $300K a year, Klink should have been sacked years ago. Kudos to Crotchfelt for recognizing how little work he actually did and how little Klink contributed to the bottomline or goodwill of this company. Say what you want about Karen Crotchfelt, the lady has a big pair.

    1. 6:43, this is from another USA Today press release announcing another hire:

"He is a highly creative entrepreneur and we know he will lead this division with the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit that it requires."

Do you know who that was? (Hint: two months later, he abruptly quit, and the paper never directly acknowledged he was gone.)

  7. I have to agree with 5:43. Michael Kane should have let Bruce Klink go years ago. How gratifying to see Gannett starting to eat it's own, letting those who decided the fate of others over the last few years, get what they deserve. Karma sure is a bitch!

  8. Oh my, interesting about Karen Lincoln Michael in Lafayette, La. Wonder if that job will be filled or if it's the start a move toward statewide consolidation. Stay tuned.

  9. speaking of consolidations, when your presses consolidated and your offices were no longer 24-hour operations, what security did your papers keep in place for the person or two who are the only ones left working after midnight?

  12. I eliminated USA Today's app from my phone today. I had sent a note complaining about what the sponsored cruise ship content to them. No one bothered to respond (not even an auto-respond.) Since they don't care about ethics, I will no longer rely on them for news. Plenty of other players, which is a shame because the website had improved substantially.

    1. the app if free - so understand that businesses have to make money......so tired of posts where people think that they deserve news (which they do) but do nothing to support it.....you're probably one of the 9 in 10 that listen to NPR but pay nothing to support it

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones.
