DealChicken reportedly giving up local model

Anonymous@10:47 writes amid reports of layoffs at the daily deals site:

In other DealChicken news, those remaining yesterday was told of "DealChickazon" (unofficial name), which will be an aggregator of DealChicken, LivingSocial, Groupon, etc., and other daily deal sites.

Some e-mail sends will be local, but for the most part DealChicken has given up on the local model and will become a Huffington Post of daily deals.

  1. Wow Jim this is a new low even for you. A totally line of BS. Markets were eliminated due to poor performance. The strongest markets are still in tact. Don't you even care if your facts are correct? Heck, maybe even a little correct?

    1. Perhaps you missed the word "reportedly."

    2. Perhaps you now run a gossip rag and don't care about facts as long as you get clicks and advertising revenue.

    3. Journalism 101: Say "reportedly," use an anonymous source, and you can make up whatever you want! Sigh.

  2. Are you sure it wasn't supposed to be "Dead Chicken" instead of "Deal Chicken"

  3. What markets are the strongest? How many were/are going to be laid off?

  4. I was the one who original posted this to Jim. No markets are being contracted. It's more about what kind of deals will be offered to these markets' e-mail lists. I can assure you, no markets have been contracted at all. From what I know, some e-mails will contain "affiliate" deals (those from competitors and elsewhere) and some will contain local deals--the issue is that most markets don't have a full slate of local deals every day. Some are really barren. This is, of course, still at an early stage, but the DealChickazon concept is definitely something that's happening. The people laid off were not attached to specific markets. Some were working at local markets (where they originally started) and some were in McLean. Some were experienced and some had never worked in a local market. Jim's reporting what he's heard and perhaps some clarity will come within the next few weeks. Needless to say, DealChicken is not playing to beat anyone, unfortunately.

    1. BS. You are ABSOLUTELY wrong. Time will tell who is correct.

    2. You provide no source. We are just supposed to believe what "you heard." Riiiight. Jim and others might fall for it. Some of us won't.

Does that have anything to do with you firing all the sales reps?
