  1. You cannot blame this health care devastation on Gannett,no matter how terrible that you believe Gannett is treating you.
This Obamacare nightmare is solely and completely the on the shoulders of Obama .This fiasco of an unworkable train wreck of a bill was passed with 100% of democrats voting for it and 0% of Republicans voting for it.
So call your Senators and Representatives if they are democrats and scream at them, call your Pres and scream at him but don't blame Gannett.

    1. Actually 34 House Dems bravely and patriotically voted nay.

    2. No! Obamacare gave Gannett a way out of giving its employees the health care benefits they deserve. Does anyone out there know of any other major company that has cut the health care benefit to its employees as drastic as Gannett?

    3. @3:08 - Here's a start....

Walgreens – 160,000 employees will lose their plans
UPS - Will no longer cover spouses on other plans
      Trader Joes
      Home Depot
      Delta
University of Virginia – Dropping spouses on other plans
      Cleveland Clinic
      IBM, Time Warner dumping retirees.

Need more? Go look as you won't like what you see, nor how it only weakens what you attempt here.

    4. I am not the original poster but that is one weak list. Yes, I want more do you have a more extensive list? I doubt you can show more that have done what Gannett has done.

  2. Two words, the first is Bull and the second one starts with an "S". See if you can figure it out.

    1. If you're holding Obama's ACA blameless in all this, then those two words more than aptly describe what you attempt now.

Let's also not forget that the businesses who support Gannett are greatly impacted by this too....it's a fact, not BS.

    2. Great comeback.
It is all just facts and truth and it is hard to dispute the truth.

    3. How is ObamaCare to blame since it doesn't affect people who already have insurance?

  4. And the no-doubt prepared by corporate column about the expanded Post-Crescent (now featuring USA Today prepared content).

And, despite two meetings on the topic, it still hasn't been explained how the additional space for local stories will be filled.

    1. Publisher Genia Lovett promises readers they'll get "more of the investigative reporting that has become the centerpiece of our front pages almost every day."

Investigative reporting "almost every day"? Really? I'd love to see some examples because even USA Today can't muster that kind of in-depth coverage that often -- measured by conventional standards of investigative reporting, that is.

    2. I bet they'll use stories from other Gannett papers in the state, that really won't appeal to the Appleton readers. Just like Oshkosh does to fill space when they don't have any "local" stories; they run crap that means nothing to Oshkosh readers.

Give it to me local! What a frickin' farce.

  5. Heard that a handful of employees in Indianapolis were let go last week. Did this happen other places? Seems like they're sticking with small numbers to keep it off the radar.

    1. As always -- Source? Numbers? Departments? Anything resembling a specific?

Until you have any of that, the "I heard ..." stuff is a waste of our time.

  6. I have the names of four people - all in Advertising. Heard there was a fifth - from the newsroom, or whatever they call it these days - but don't have that one confirmed. If it's a waste of your time, please find something better to do. Maybe you can put effort toward supporting those who lost their jobs.

  7. It has taken me a few days to mull over this new health plan from Gannett, and I am utterly disgusted with it. I find it a deep insult, that everybody are now paying the same for coverage (minus the tax deduction for lower paid employees). How can they justify, that someone making $20K a year must pay the same as someone making 6 figures?
True, that ACA comes into play in 2014, but nowhere in the law did it say, that current health plans "must" change. The changes are done to save money (I get that), but to put the blame on ACA is hogwash.

Shame on you Gannett and those responsible for this!

  8. Another wall tumbles: The Dallas Morning News dismantles its paywall, tries to sell premium features instead

Readers don’t want to pay for news online

Moroney said that research the newspaper did with print subscribers showed that what readers were willing to pay for wasn’t the actual content itself, but the method of delivery — that is, the printed newspaper. When offered the exact same content online for a price that was 90-percent less than the average print subscription rate, only five percent of readers said they were interested.

“What we concluded from this research was that subscribers were not paying for the content, so much as paying for how they wanted to consume the content we published. They were paying for a print experience. Now, we want to see if there are sufficient consumers who will pay for a premium digital experience.”

  10. As a laid off employee I am liking Obamacare more and more everyday. It is really going to save me money and let me keep insurance I otherwise couldn't afford. I will live a long life now that I no longer have to worry about having a heart attack working for Gannett.

Stars and Stripes is written and published for US servicemen abroad, yet even that fine daily is not immune from cutbacks in its print edition. The main difference is that while most dailies are taking out hard news Stars and Stripes will remove a lot of fluff.
