Wausau | Police: woman held men hostage for sex

Boyd
That story in yesterday's Wausau Daily Herald about the accused woman, Terry Boyd, is strange enough all on its own. Stranger still? As I post this, there isn't a single reader comment on it. (Other than mine, that is.)

Yet, at Wausau's WAOW-TV, which played catch-up with its coverage today, there are 23 comments.

Are Daily Herald readers really that shy when it comes to sex? Or is there some other explanation?

Please post your replies in the comments section, below. To e-mail confidentially, write jimhopkins[at]gmail[dot-com]; see Tipsters Anonymous Policy in the rail, upper right.

  1. As an aside, this story once more offers a useful tip: If you get arrested, smile when the cops take your mug shot.

  2. Maybe everyone in Wausau was trying to Google her phone number.

  3. Answer is simple: The community of Wausau gets its news from TV or the radio. The Wausau Dull Herald is poorly managed beginning with Beck and the majority of readers either still get it out of habit or because of Packers, Badgers and high school sports coverage. That coverage is suffering, too, because of no newshole, poor writing, even worse editing and new leadership in the sports department that doesn't have a clue what the Wausau community wants.

  4. Jim,
If you check out the Wausau Daily Herald 's Facebook page, you'll find the comments there. The commenters in central Wisconsin moved there when Gannett changed the anonymous comment policy.

  5. I don't know because the article gives no indication of where this photo came from. But I think some police agencies use driver's license photos now when they release mugs..... Don't know if that's the case here, but the cops in our state use them sometimes. Might be why they tell you not to smile!

  6. I'll bet it has something to do with the Gannett sites requiring you to use Facebook to comment, whereas this TV station does not. Comments appeared to drop off dramatically after the Facebook implementation because of the loss of anonymity. Ever notice how catty and candid people are when they don't have to sign their names?

    1. Jason, on this site, it lets people post all sorts of stupid rumors and insults.

They know they never have to face the consequences of being wrong, which happens often.

Also, in advance of the first idiot pointing out this post is anonymous -- not the point, dude.

    2. ... in addition to the lack of anonymity, some people just don't want to be on Facebook, and they're shut out from commenting on Gannett sites completely.

    3. All the Wisconsin papers took huge hits in reader comments after switching to Facebook. And they used to be such click whores.

  7. Interesting ... I couldn't find this article anywhere on the Wausau Daily Herald website, even in the archives, though it's only barely over a month old. I used WDH's search engine for the keywords "Terry Boyd."

It doesn't seem possible that such a sensational story would disappear so completely. What's going on?

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
