  1. Welcome to one of the most important days for Gannett: the release of second-quarter earnings.

  2. It's all within reach.Layoffs, furloughs,cutbacks,re-apply for jobs,hours reduced,more work load as co-workers gone.
If you are still a Gannett employee....reach out and grab that unemployment check.....
You should have left long ago.

  3. Once again we see the company touting YOY circulation revenue growth which is due to the enormous subscription price increases that were the key part of their paywall effort. The number of subscribers continues to decline at a rapid pace - every year fewer people subscribe to Gannett products. When you see a quarterly release that says the number of subscribers has risen, that will be news.

  4. Checked five stores here in the east valley (Phx) yesterday and no Sunday Republic copies had the TV Guide in them. Another cost-saving action? or just a screw-up?

  8. Dear colleagues,

I’m pleased to report we soon will have terrific new technology tools for work and communication.

We entered into an agreement with Microsoft to provide Office 365, a cloud-based email and collaboration platform.

Early adopters from a number of sites will test the new features in August, and in September, we’ll begin the general rollout. We expect to complete the effort by June 2014.

The agreement provides many great benefits including advanced email capabilities; continually updated versions of Office Apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint that enable you to work across multiple devices, right from your browser; individual 25 GB mailboxes; easy file storage and sharing; the ability to view and edit documents using IOS, Android and Windows mobile devices; and eventually the ability to host online meetings using video conferencing.

We also will introduce a companywide internal social network called Yammer, building upon the success we had with an earlier limited rollout.

This only touches on a few of the great features – and like anything else, it is what you make of it. More details will be forthcoming in the days and weeks ahead.

I hope when the rollout comes to your location, you will enjoy and embrace the new tools while using them in ways that help strengthen and grow this amazing company of ours.

    Best regards,

    Gracia

An interesting definition for the word "yammer".

a : to utter repeated cries of distress or sorrow
    b : whimper
    2
: to utter persistent complaints : whine
    3
: to talk persistently or volubly and often loudly

    1. Why is this coming from CEO Gracia Martore instead of, say, the chief digital officer, David Payne? Is this really that important?

      Delete
    2. Payne has nothing to do with business side technology. This initiative is under Mark Morneau, the IT VP, and should come as no surprise given the company's long-term enterprise agreement with Microsoft. What is funny is the endorsement of Yammer, which has been used for several years by various groups around Gannett. It's used by the executives' assistants, but not by the executives themselves.

    3. Which is not to say that Gannett executives aren't always yammering about something.

    4. They rolled out Yammer at my site in 2009-10 as part of the "earlier limited roll out." I had no interest in it; I had more than sufficient work swamping me. No biggie, I thought. But when I didn't show up on the thing, it was noticed. I was then advised that it was a "kind of 'you have to.'" It was silly. I had no time for it!

    5. Why is Martore prattling on and on about a glorified in house info system that the IT team will probably fuck up? She is one strange bird.

  9. When she says, "this amazing company of ours" she must be referring to shareholders. Employees don't own Gannett and many have found out the hard way Gannet doesn't care about employees.

  10. Rumor has it that Brevard/Florida Today is going to be, or already is, delivering all the newspapers sold in Brevard. New York Post, Wall Street Journal, Barron's, New York Times, and the Orlando Sentinel. So they are going to actually help the direct competition and indirect competition? Kind of like Ford letting GM use their facilities to make GM cars! Nuts.

Is Gannett really letting Florida Today put the holes in their own boat?

    1. GPS is making the agreements to deliver other products, not the papers. Consider how FedEx branded deliveries get delivered the final mile by USPS in some areas.

Now if the commercial print sales people would carry their own weight....

    2. Someone in a grave in South Dakota just started spinning...lol!

    3. Wilmington has been doing that for at least two years. Extra revenue stream is good

    4. Yes it's part of GPS growth strategy. Unfortunately delivering other companies products can affect delivery of Gannett locals and USA today.

  11. It would seem as though the financial report was showing a 10% gain in revenue from the lack of comments here. I guess folks can pretend everything is rosy and jobs are safe, then they won't have to worry about being unemployed. This financial report was again terrible on the print side.
Can we have an update on the current RIF lists?

  12. What happened to pub in Lafayette, LA?

  13. The silence today is deafening.Everyone is like walking through a graveyard at midnite.
The publishing revenue reports just keep trending lower and lower with no end in sight.
Yet another round of layoffs approaches and every employee knows it could be them.

  14. Furloughs possible on a site-by-site basis. Stay tuned.

  15. Waiting for the shoe to drop at my site. There are many new employees in the organization so that is likely contributing to the silence around here.

  16. Isn’t it funny how relieved we are when furloughs are announced after the rumors of mass layoffs.
