New pubs in Shreveport, Fort Collins and Green Bay

I was offline today when Corporate announced a series of management changes at three of the 81 U.S. community dailies:

Judi Terzotis, publisher of the Fort Collins Coloradoan, was named publisher of The Times in Shreveport, La. Terzotis joined the Coloradoan in 2011. Prior to that, she was associate publisher of Freedom Communications' Gazette in Colorado Springs, Colo.

In Shreveport, she replaces Don Bailey, who resigned unexpected in March.

Kathy Jack-Romero, business development director at the Coloradoan, was promoted to publisher there. Jack-Romero has been with paper since 2005. She has also held management jobs in two other Gannett markets, in Nevada and Montana.

Scott Johnson, publisher of Minnesota's St. Cloud Times, will be moving home to his roots to be the publisher at Wisconsin's Green Bay Press-Gazette. Before St. Cloud, Johnson was regional advertising director of Gannett Wisconsin Media in Green Bay. He also was advertising director at the Press-Gazette and has had various advertising roles at other outlets in Iowa and Wisconsin.

Corporate's statement didn't detail plans for Johnson's replacement in St. Cloud.

In Green Bay, Johnson succeeds Kevin Corrado, who was named president and publisher of New England Newspapers Inc. in March. Johnson is the only the sixth publisher in the Press-Gazette’s nearly 100-year history, according to the Press-Gazette's story about Johnson's being hired.

It's worth noting that another very high-profile publisher's job must still be filled: at The Des Moines Register, after Laura Hollingsworth was promoted to the Nashville Tennessean yesterday, with significantly expanded responsibilities as president of the newly merged South and Central group of papers.

  2. So, does this explain why Bob spent so much time in Louisiana recently? As did Judi it seems?

    1. I think her husband works, doesn't he? Or was he doing secret recon on the market all the way from NOLA.

  3. Laura H. also mentioned during the employee meeting in Shreveport yesterday that Shreveport will be a "regional site" and that Terzotis will be a regional president or vice president...but La. papers are still part of the Central Group in the overall structure. Terzotis seems personable enough. She walked around the building chatting after the employee meeting.

  5. One of the Coloradoan reporters said there was "shocked silence" from the staff in Fort Collins when Silberman announced Judi had been reassigned. She was that well-regarded by her staff; really turned that place around in two years.

  6. She makes a better publisher than she did ad director. She had 2 obstacles that stood in her way and was able to flourish once the obstacles were lifted.

  7. Let's see how she does. This is a huge challenge. Not sure she has the skills and know how to get done what needs to happen in LA.
It will take more than dinners, drinks and photos to get this team in line.
    Good luck!!

    2. You sound like you've been drinking mint julips all night. And maybe all day.

    3. It is a huge challenge. And if you knew Judi, you wouldn't bat an eye at her being able to succeed at it. It won't happen overnight, but you can bet it'll happen.

    4. The leaders in LA are different but the local team is unchanged. Maybe it the team that needs to change. I've worked for Judi and she has all the tools necessary to motivate you or replace you! If not her, then who should it have been?
