Neuharth-Ozgo vs. Neuharth |
It is Rosamunda Neuharth-Ozgo, and she told me her story late one spring afternoon in 2009, over coffee in a Washington-area restaurant. (Read the version she wrote herself.)
Today, of all days, her name and claim deserve to be mentioned prominently.
Incredible that Al would not recognize his daughter when he adopted six(?) children. I met Rosamunda as a teen and feel bad for all she has gone through. She did get a good education, though and one must move on! Better not to have had a dad than a rotten dad.
ReplyDeleteI celebrate your birth, Says alot about big Al!
ReplyDeleteEvery child counts! Every child!
I am proud of you for standing up for yourself- since your goody 2 shoes Al had other agendas BRAVO!!!!
God you look just like Al!
This certainly does make a mockery out of the very journalistic principles we are supposed to uphold. It is a sham and a shame that an organization as powerful as Gannett would not abide by the principles it stands for. No integrity! Hypocrisy at its worst. Rosamunda is way above her "father" -- the hypocrite. He called himself an "S.O.B." in his book and he was right.
ReplyDeleteWhat does Gannett have to do with the fact he rejected his own child?
DeleteFair question. Neuharth wrote ad nauseam about his adopted kids in his weekly USA Today column -- a column for which Corporate paid him, as near as I can tell, $100,000 a year for life.
Delete7:40 AM If you don't get it then you didn't read her article in the link noted. Read before you comment.
DeleteWho do you think the board of directors believes? Rosamunda or Big Al?
ReplyDeleteSeems that some kind of response is in order.
From Romenesko's blog:
ReplyDelete"In a column that he wanted published after his death, the USA Today founder said that “as a journalist, I had a wonderful window on the world” and “for nearly 50 years as a reporter and editor, I tried to tell stories accurately and fairly, without opinion.”"
Ah, Big Al, hypocrite to the very end. Lavishing salary and perks upon himself and friends, jetting about the country to tell community publishers they must boost the bottom line, lying about his history in a pitiful attempt to burnish his legacy.

ReplyDeleteBig Al took good financial care of lackeys like Charles Overby and Ken Paulson. He supposedly championed racial and gender diversity, but Big Al's inner circle was full of ruthless white men like him.
ReplyDeleteHow sad that in late life Big Al and wifey #3 collected children like pets but he could never make amends to this shunned daughter.
And those white men were "vertically challenged" like Al too. Watching them roll into a Gannett paper was like watching the march of the seven dwarfs.
DeleteAl was a visionary, but also a heartless prick who would have eaten his own children if he had to.
ReplyDeletecomments on this blog tell the truth- i'll but his funeral will be fruitiful and full of bull!
ReplyDeleteWhat about wife #3 who has made a business of adopting children (www.homeatlastadoption.com).
ReplyDeleteHow does she feel about Al's hypocrisy with the rejection of his own daughter? Her adoptions seem like nothing more than another PR coup for Big Al, one more sham.
