Gannett announces annual top employee awards

Here's the just-published press release with the winners, including those in two new categories: Content, and Client Solutions.

As near as I can tell, the Content awards are company-wide, as opposed to the annual Best of Gannett contest, which is solely for the U.S. newspaper division; those were announced last month.

  1. Glad to see Gannett has their own version of TV's popular show "The Biggest Losers."

    4. Losers? Really? My best friend was the recipient of one of those awards, and though I don't work for Gannett (though I'm a journalist), I had a front-row seat to all the research, reporting, writing, editing, long hours and everything else that goes with producing OUTSTANDING journalism. Did you bother to look up the work that won the awards? I didn't think so. You'd just rather sit on the sidelines and shoot off your critical mouth. Go away.

  3. Congrats to all the winners. They're a batch of hard-working, inspiring people plus a batch of great journalism. Kudos.

  4. Spin is everything. Especially acording to ex marketing people. But honestly, today's awards are difficult to believably spin badly. This company has remarkably turned around the stock (yes, much due to restructuring; aka staff reductions and consolidations) but today is a celebration of what the collective remains have accomplished. This forum too often overlooks and is naive to what we do. Here here.

    2. The corporation is in a five year long nose dive with no end to that in sight. Countless loyal, experienced, dedicated employees have been unjustly kicked out of their jobs.
You people just go ahead and eat the sugar coating. Your unemployment time is coming.

  5. ...how is a television station a finalist for long-form writing?

  6. I am sure the awards are well-deserved. Let's put this in the tickler file and see how many are still in their jobs a year from now.

  7. This is a crazy list and rewards people for pushing the terrible ideas from the top.

    1. Could anyone please explain to me what a "Greater Good" award is? And just how do you get yourself one of those?

And is that "Watchdog" award to Westchester for their publishing of the handgun registrations? Really?

    2. They didn't publish gun registrations. Wow. That gun lobby misinformation machine is hard at work.

    1. Well, the awards should mean nothing, because they're not the reason that you do the work. It's the work that should mean something, and they can't ever take that away from you.

  9. What a great event. Lots of energy, folks recognized from across the spectrum of Gannett. Congrats to all of the winners and the finalists. You should be proud. Thanks for the great work!

  11. Gannett awards are about managers congratulating themselves.

    1. So the many reporters and sales people honored meant nothing to you? You must be a fun coworker!!!

  12. Evan Ray is a finalist for manager of the year? What does he manage, other than downsizing? He apparently has a big countdown clock somewhere signalling the day he can finally walk out the door with a hefty retirement package. What an a-hole.

Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones.
