Livingston | When a Gannett paper covers itself

The Daily Press & Argus in Michigan's Livingston County covered a Gannett event last week promoting the company's digital advertising services as though it were an actual news event.

I wonder whether the daily would write a similar story about a local competitor?

The paper's weekday circulation is 10,931, and Sunday is 15,777, according to the Sept. 30 ABC report.

  1. Written by no less than the executive editor. But really, how can you go wrong with a caption that starts "John Colone, the unofficial mayor of Hell..."

  2. Gannett employees aren't allowed to sign petitions, but a newspaper is allowed to cover a Gannett-sponsored event. Yeah, no crediblity problems there.

    Typical Gannett hypocrisy.

  3. Oh my the sky is falling. You are teh same people who complain at Yahoo because they can't work from home. Yahoo is dying on the vine and the CEO is trying to save the caompany and their jobs but oh no she is insensitive. How can any company survive with employees like you?

  4. I think these are a series of GannettLocal efforts that -- and for an audience of small business owners -- this is news of a certain kind. An earlier outing at FLA Today: http://www.floridatoday.com/article/20130213/BUSINESS/302130023/Gannett-digital-helps-aim-local-business-right-direction

  5. How many times have you read stories from newspapers about their declining circulation? It's ok for the editorial team to write negative stories about their newspaper, but having them cover a positive story... they should all be fired!!

    HYPOCRITES!

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
