  1. "Americans’ distrust in the media hit a new high this year, with 60% saying they have little or no trust in the mass media to report the news fully, accurately, and fairly." (Gallup survey conducted Sept. 6-9, 2012.)

"Fifty-four percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of the National Rifle Association, while 38% have an unfavorable opinion." (USA Today/Gallup poll conducted Dec. 19-22, 2012.)

Interesting contrast. No doubt this latest media panic over the right to lawful, responsible firearm ownership will only deepen the divide.

  2. You all must be on drugs to still work for a company that you hate!
After 4 years of cut backs, layoffs and hundreds of added on hours of work, you still come to work every day.You work for a corporation that you complain about daily and despise hourly.
Why ? It's just a fricken job,get another job.For crying out loud, get some self esteem and go.I worked for Gannett for years.I also worked for Star Trib in Minneapolis.Just good jobs, not life creators or destroyers.
Why continue to have a miserable life because of a company that doesn't care a bit about you and will dispose of you anytime and without warning.
Just leave, find something else and go!

    4. Wow! What excellent and sage advice. I never would have thought of that myself! You are amazing! Now, back to business. Make it two Big Macs, please, and could you give me some extra napkins?

  3. I dread another year with this sinking/sunk ship. My new year resolution is to get out as fast as I can while Martore and Banikarim keep rearranging their one- legged deck chairs.

  4. Yea, yea, yea but you never do 11:51. The economy is improving. Why are you still here? Enough with "I'm leaving this crappy company." We will do just fine without you. Get out already. You are boring. Or maybe it's just no one will hire you

  5. Journalists are masochists or suffer from inferiority complex. They stay for the abuse. The rest know they cant do better or are in cush high paying jobs. They cannot find work at reputable news orgs.

  7. Heymer and all the rest are enjoying their protected state as women or minorities in Gannett.

  8. bob dickey will be in phoenix to watch his beloved Oregon in the fiesta bowl, then golf, big dinners, lots of wine, don't forget to stop by and see zidich so you can write the whole trip off as business !! don't worry he wouldn't think about stopping by the Arizona Republic (aka Republic media) to say hi to anyone, too much party time and a visit would interfer with that !!

  9. For adults, there sure is a lot of immaturity in these threads. I can see why people would and should want to get out of what's transformed into a cancerous company, and I can see why people would have to stay! Opportunities — and black-and-white circumstances — vary widely in individual lives, careers, regions and industries! What a concept! But one would not know it from some of the single-minded childish snipes and rude derision. Among people who should know better? Sad, such simple minds. Scary that such is the maturity of some of my colleagues (in name only).

  11. It's just a job ,why give up all of your self respect for a company that treats you as a line on an expense sheet.A company ready to dispose of you as a piece of unwanted and useless waste of money.
Have you all had just one job or career and fear you can't make it anywhere else?
What other reason could justify ?

  12. Jill rocks and is actually a hero in keeping the troubled travel project on course.

You "haters" are really pathetic. And anyone "worried" about women and minorities having a Gannett advantage is both a racist and hasn't checked out the company lately. Those days of positive outreach are sadly over.

    Immaturity indeed abounds here.

    5. No, what’s pathetic 5:06 PM is people like you who cry racism, that tactic along with the rest of your rant well exposes your own lack of maturity and intellectual honesty. Too funny.

  13. Economy on the improve 12:58? Is that why we're trillions in debt and kids can't get jobs, after 4 years of college? Maybe your one of the many children that have had to come back home to live with Mommy and Daddy. Can you explain why Martore and Hunke cashed out stock this year? It wouldn't have anything to do with capital gains tax going up right? The economy is improving in your own mind. Going over the fiscal cliff just justifies the furloughs.

  14. This is what my local Gannett paper gave me this weekend. Big photos on the Local News page (yes, Local News) of staff photographers' pets. Next day a longgggggggg column by an editor about his dog's death. He said his underlings really liked the dog when he brought it to the office.

  15. Politico reports the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association is calling for a nationwide boycott of Journal News/Gannett advertisers over permit-holder map.

"'State that you will no longer patronize any advertiser who uses Gannett (the Journal News' parent company) until and unless that advertiser withholds further ads until Gannett takes down the pistol licensee Web page and ceases attacking lawful firearm ownership,' the NYSRPA wrote in release."

  20. Yes, 7:49, the economy has been on a slow mend for more than a year now. The unemployment situation is not good, but better. The housing market is clearly on the rebound. The S&P will finish more than 13% higher for the year (meaning it has gone up well over 50% since 2009.) These are all "good," not bad, things. A genuine, meaningful economic recovery does not announce itself like turning on a light switch in a dark movie theater. It is usually a slower, more subtle improvement over time. But please do continue to wail about the awful, terrible debt (which somehow never seemed so awful and terrible to so many Americans until 2009).

    1. That's because spending skyrocketed in 2009, genius. As a result, in four short years the debt increased by more than half.
