  1. Ah, the endorsement season. I always dreaded it when I was writing editorials. They are so pointless, especially when your dumb ass publisher orders you to back the candidate who has done everything you have editorialized against. Try rationalizing that for folks who actually read what you write. Any credibility is lost for good. But that was when editorial pages might have had some marginal value.

  3. Has any Gannett newspaper endorsed President Obama this year?

Phoenix, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Louisville, Nashville and Reno are among those endorsing Mitt Romney.

That's a reversal from 2008 for Nashville and Reno.

  4. So his did Martore, Heather Frank, Sell-out-wood, Micek and Blue Ball Banikarim spend their day of USA Weekend Make A Difference Day?

  5. Gannett's KUSA drops the "f" from "shifts" in a headline about the World Series. How embarrassing.

  6. To all of the posters on this blog who talk about how happy they are now that they've moved on, we have something in common: we are, too.

We're happy that — whether by choice or forced out — you took your negativity and attempts to make everyone else as miserable as you with you when you left. Our newsrooms feel more like a team without your poison and our ad staffs are making better numbers without you marking time.

If you've found a life after Gannett, that's great. But, in your departure, we've found new life *in* Gannett, and it's a lot happier.

We're glad that the only place you can foment your anger is on this blog, and not in our buildings.

So, post all you like about the downward spiral of this company. It may have been headed that direction when you were all here, but oddly enough, it feels a lot better now.

  7. 9:54 Your Wiki list does not show any endorsements for any candidates by the papers in Louisville, Ky., and Indianapolis. I've also checked their websites and can't find any endorsements there, either.

I don't know about Indianapolis. But based on the Louisville paper's long history of backing Democrats, I would be very surprised if that paper supported Romney.

  10. 11:48 - Funny, Me and a lot of other people are still working for this dreaded company and things don't seem better now to me. Waiting for the next round of furloughs and year of no raises to be announced.....AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN! What paper are you working for?

  11. Florida Today backs Romney. Just shows how much a Dem in Rep clothing Romney is.

yet they endorse Bill Nelson still...a dead line democrat. Go figure.

  12. Since you asked....

Even though I am earning less base at my new, post-Gannett job I am thrilled for every minute I am no longer at your heinous company.

The black cloud of dread of having our publication folded due to bad management is gone. I thought it was like that everywhere, but it turns out to be unique to Gannett. The oppressive environment, cut backs and ever-shrinking T&E is specific to Gannett - not everywhere or possibly anywhere else. Now I can spend freely again - it's taken a while to sink in!

And I wasnt negative in some newsroom. I was a star - an ad salesperson generating huge sums of money for Gannett and not even earning 1%. I'm now dedicating my energies to selling my loyal clients into your competitors.

You're going down and I predict won't last a year. Gracia is bleeding the company dry with her huge bonuses. Maryam and the people she brings in are all bluster and no substance.

    1. Heh 3:44 everyone is good looking and a star on the Internet. We don't miss you. Good luck with your new company. I'm sure your new CEO works for peanuts.

  13. 11:48, thank you, and good luck, being a Gannettoid midshipman of The Capitol. May you find pleasure in the invincible ignorance of small, common and insular minds, of the carpet-bagging kind.

At least Big Al would listen to story ideas.

  26. USA Today is using a freelancer to cover the World Series' fourth game tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Jim, I'd call it smart if they found a good freelancer and avoided the expense of sending a staff reporter. It's a baseball game.

    ReplyDelete
  28. 12:25 It's a baseball game, yes -- but USAT has largely staked its future on USA Today Sports Media Group.

  29. Jim, GCI owns the Detroit Free Press and the DFP copy of Mitch Albom ("Tuesdays with Morrie"), Oprah's pal.

GCI had plenty of firepower at that game, IMHO.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
