  1. Oh how I long for the days when people really cared about their craft and when they stopped they left and infected another company.

  2. How I long for the days when Gannett newspapers served their communities and cared about more than just the bottom line.

is not to be found on USA Today website.

Instead, there's a story about how the US and Afghan troops are merging.

  4. Oh how I long for the day that dumbass VP of sales/ Plant managers are held accountable for their poor decisions!!

  5. How I long for the days when Gannett was a decent employer... NOT!

Sorry. Never experienced a benevolent Gannett. Production workers have been taking it in the chops for years under Gannett's heavy hand. Not trying to start anything here, but white-collar workers have missed out on all the "fun" up until now.

    1. Five years of layoffs and buyouts..And you call that fun? You surely aren't in Cincy where the news employees are hourly workers and surely not considered white collar. You dont get it.

  7. "The difference between selling ads now vs. the good only pre Internet, pre recession eras is salespeople actually have to work for a change rather than sitting on theor duff or glad handing to Rotarians.

Sorry you lard asses are veing held accountable for a change. we're losing money because of you. So shut your pie holes and do your jobs."

    8/19/2012 12:30 AM

Yes 12:30 I'll get to that as soon as my 10:30AM mani-pedi is done. Then it's off to the club for some squash and a light lunch with the girls. Don't worry though...I'll try and return a call and e-mail or two later in the day. If I can.

  8. But afternoons are when you look out the window. I call 'imposter' on you!

    ReplyDelete
  9. 3:48,
Look out the window, too? Now my day is completely jammed! Send me something in Outlook and I'll get back to you.

  10. Shoot, I have a four o'clock appointment, I might as well go home afterwards. See you tomorrow!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Let's hope the 4:00 appointment cancels and I can just go home anyway. Even better.

  12. Might as well go home. I'm just gonna look out the window back at the office anyway.

  13. Lets face it, the only reason I still work for GPS is I have been looking for a new job. GPS treats us like slaves while the managers do nothing. It's that simple..GPS SUCKS and the do nothing managers making way too much salary got to go/ cut their pay in half. Were I work it is a complete joke what they do..Nothing. The day I leave can't come soon enough

    ReplyDelete
  14. Anyone here had their "pay raise" from the company wide performance review almost 6 months ago?
If so, will be be retroactive from the day the review was due?
If I (or we) didn't get a raise, that is OK, since we didn't count on it, just man up and let us know.
We are big boys and girls, and we can take it straight.

  15. I keep looking and keeping upbeat and optimistic. In the meantime, who really cares about the crap we push out under this dying Gannett banner.

  16. Why didn't The Journal News in Westchester liquidate all the office furniture and equipment that they couldn't take to their smaller new office space. I'm sure the bean counters at corporate would lose their minds if they knew the price tag on some of the items that were given away.

  17. Sorry to say, 10:13, but the news business has always been about the money. But there was a time with double-digit post-tax profits margins allowed us to pursue our loftly goals of informing and engaging the public. And be paid a professional or marginally-livable wage. Now that the business model is dead, the ugly truth shows. Gannett is among the worst offenders, but it's an industry-wide decline into hell. Just watch your back, because no one else will.

    ReplyDelete
  18. 8:41 pm What a joke? Seriously? The crappy 20-year-old furniture should have been sold? You're really reaching for rotten tomatoes.. Or maybe you're jealous you couldn't get your old chair.

  19. A good read for the Gannett senior leadership who we all KNOW reads this blog. They must wonder why their people are NOT in any way motivated to help generate or share ANY new ideas with the company. How do they fix this problem? Simple. Fix the leadership. And that's starts at the very top.

  21. 6:18-we had our reviews, were given the amount the raise was submitted for, then received word about a month ago that no raises would occur. After 3 years without one, resumes are going out daily.

  22. Where did the Journal News end up? Where's the new office. I know one thing ... it has to be cleaner than the old one.

  23. SHARE IDEAS WITH GANNETTOIDS?

Only if I had a signed contract, with ownership rights.

A goodly number of Gannettoids are loud, unpleasant carpet-baggers who only care about their bonus.

If getting rid of "costs" (you) are in their bonus-target -- never, ever turn your back on them. Real jerks and bozos, and everyone knows it.

  24. No raise and no performance review for more than three years. Then again, there's no leadership, no management and no HR person who gives a damn so what does it matter.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I hear the Journal News has reserved a table at the local coffee shop...the one near the three-pronged outlet.

  26. Gannett has treated former employees worse than Bain Capital. At least when Bain Capital came in and took over companies that were losing money. Gannett was and still is profitable yet they thought nothing of having RIF's to get rid of loyal and dedicated employees. Shame on the the leaders of Gannett, and GPS. You can say it was just business but it was more than that. It was almost like they gained pleasure from their power to hurt other people.

  27. No 7:28 , not the old furniture, the $40,000 in equipment

  28. Huff Post gives the heave-ho in getting Gannett kicked out of Advertising Week "partners," right under the nose of Maryam Banikarim sitting on the board of governance. That's alright, that's okay. We don't have any advertisers any way.

  32. 6:34 that is pure bullshit. A complete lie. You must really miss your old job.

  33. Oh my! My husband is a Gannett retiree and he got a letter today from John Zidich, CEO and Publisher of the Arizona Republic. The letter indicates that our new subscription will be $14.33 a week. Mr. Zidich says "This special rate is 50% off our regular subscription rate and is only available to valued current and retired empoloyees". We pay $154 a year now so our new subscription will be $745 a year and that's just half the price that others will be asked to pay. How many subscribers do you think the Republic will have come September?

  34. Cherry Hill is trying to bring in some revenue with commercial print work. All the while asking the pressmen to take a 15% pay cut. One job in particular is a huge piece of crap that does not belong on a newspaper press. They(or I should say he, since he can do it all like he did in Mo-town)keep throwing money away left and right with printing waste and re-printing when the customer decides they don't like what they are seeing. The customer was obviously promised things that can not be given. And promised by an over-paid "last director standing" that keeps trying to make people give more than the 100% they are giving, with threats that are looking better than the direction that Cherry Hill is heading.

  37. @9:51 p.m.: $14.33 A WEEK??? That's got to be a typo in the letter....or Gannett's suicide note.

    ReplyDelete
  38. 14.33 a month, 171.96 a year. Seriously, if your reading comprehension is that bad, cancel and just google 'pretty pictures' to stimulate your mind.

    ReplyDelete
  39. 9:51, you should give up on the Internet for a while. Just write letters and send cards. Then someday, just like at the end of Gremlins, you might be ready.
