Google is close to paying a record $22.5 million to settle charges related to its bypassing of privacy settings of millions of Apple users -- a case that ensnared PointRoll in a Congressional probe on the matter.
Citing officials briefed on the settlement terms, The Wall Street Journal says in a story this morning that it would be the largest penalty ever levied on a single company by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.
The WSJ story doesn't mention PointRoll or any of the other companies tied to the privacy breach, which involved Apple's Safari web browser. It appears Google may bear particular responsibility because this case would likely be a violation of a 20-year consent decree signed with the FCC only last October.
The penalty for violating the agreement is $16,000 per violation per day, the WSJ says.

ReplyDeleteJim,
ReplyDeleteWhy do you keep deleting a FACT? Tria has quit the company. Start reporting facts and stop hiding the truth from the Pointroll employees.
She s the most senior person here to defect.
PointRoll is doomed. All of the talent has left. The only people remaining are the slackers and fools that are under qualified for the titles they hold. Operations is a mess. Junior level PMs and managers are running the show. I'm so sick of working with these stupid people. Our clients are mostly clueless to what is going on. Just wait until Q4 when we miss our revenue targets by 20-30% and layoffs begin. We should start with the campaign team. What company in their right mind needs 70+ project managers to do the job of 30. Creative services? Joke. 3 days to build something I can build in 30 minutes. Get with the program people. PR is a losing business model with the dumbest people in the industry running the show.
ReplyDeleteIt's time someone steps in, buys this company for 1/2 price and re-orgs everyone from the top to the bottom.
I hear Sandy will be leaving soon as well. Then operations will have no leader.
ReplyDeleteRob Gatto and Sarah are just collecting paychecks at this point and everyone knows this. Watch for Sandy to end up at Fluent, Rob Gatto at some retail start up, if they are foolish enough to hire him, Sarah Ripmaster at Specific media working on the auto team. Sarah may have to work 5 days a week in her next job.

ReplyDelete10:58 No, I can't find out how much personal time off someone has had.
ReplyDelete2 of the 4 Executives have really strong face time. The other two are never in the office, and don't let them fool you that they're at important meetings or in other offices; they are MIA. Since when does someone collect a six-figure salary and work part-time hours? People are pulling in one-tenth of these joker's salary and working 60+ hour weeks. Stop doing it. Emulate your senior management. Work from home. Come in at 10, leave at 2. Take vacation every week - but don't log it, etc. If we get in trouble, well, we are behaving like our management.

ReplyDeleteIt seems rumors of Pointroll losing Ford are true, Several vendors have been called in to pitch the ford account next week. Sounds like mediamind will win the account. With Andy Ellenthal at mediamind pointroll is in trouble. Pointroll Revenue will drop from over $80 million in 2011 to $69 million in 2012. If pointroll loses Ford that figure drops another $10 million. Pointroll has also lost several accounts to flashtalking and true effect in 2012. Us Cellular, HR block, the list is extensive.

ReplyDelete11:31 I have no way to independently confirm those bonus figures for Gatto, etc. I wish I could, but I don't have access to any documents with those numbers.
ReplyDeleteHere's a figure I would like to see: What was PointRoll's total revenue in 2011 -- and what was it five years before, in 2006?
ReplyDeleteWhat was PointRoll's EBITA in 2011 -- and what was it in 2006?
Jim, Why were the bonus figures deleted/removed?
ReplyDeleteGannett should dig into Mr Gattos email. We Pointrollers have discussed posting some of his emails to the blog, Pointrollers should have a better understanding of exactly who their leadership is and how this leadership views the employees. Its eye opening. Gannett should also read up on how the pointroll leadership team speaks about David Payne and the Gannett leadership, complete lack of respect for Gracia and company.
ReplyDelete12:08 I removed them because they are unverified.
ReplyDeleteJim please connect with HR in the morn. I would like to get cclarricatioon how manny days she has accrued this year.
ReplyDeleteRight. As if HR is going to tell Jim how many days someone has accrued, thats funny.
