    How in the world can you put up with Gannett after all that has happened since 2009 ? Why?
    Apparently the economy is fine and jobs are being created every month.So stop putting up with the day after drudgery of working for this corporation who thinks employees are just disposable lines on an expense sheet.

    We haven't heard of any lately,and that is very unusual for Gannett to go on for very long without cutting.

  3. Gannett was never a good company to work for, but since the economy gave it even more of an excuse to treat employees like crap, well... I mean USA Today is even horrible now. And that used to be the one place within Gannett where you could be reasonably assured of challenging work and keeping your job. Without USAT being a place to aspire to working, why would anyone stay in this company?

  4. Indianapolis selling its building is intelligent and forward thinking. Those old-time newspaper buildings are tombstones of an era overtaken by technology. There's no better symbol of the dead old days than large, centralized, expensive downtown news offices filled with bloated levels of news management.

    You can't survive against sleek new competitors by clinging to the past. Compare Indy's building sale to what's going on in Cincinnati, where entire floors in the Enquirer building are empty but the editor is busily remodeling to build a plush monument to herself.

  7. Regarding posts and news over the weekend pertaining to Gannett buildings being placed for sale. This should come as no surprise to anybody. In fact, any Gannett building more than 10-15 years old should be put up for sale and the newspaper model, and certaing Gannett model, bears no resemblence to the industry today, (volume, revenue, employee base...). While it would be difficult to get an easy Gannett picture of today versus 15 years ago as there's been so many newspaper acquisitions, I suspect circulation, and revenue must be close to half what it was 15 years ago.

  8. Why do people stay at Gannett? Many are older than 40, even 50, and are unattractive to other employers on an age and/or health basis, in addition to being perceived as less tech-savvy, less flexible and rutted in their ways. On top of that, Gannett is the dreg of the news industry, and its management and newsroom employees are the dregs of the occupation, not generally poached by the better companies. Gannett has always been the paradise of the low-achieving.

  16. Does any know for sure if this is true or false? A person who has plenty of contact with others at the Phoenix production facility at Deer Valley has TB. This one has been floating around for a few weeks now but have not heard of any Board of Health visits.

  17. 12:24pm, do you know why those untouchables at Corporate stay? Because, in addition to the ass kissing they've done to hang on to their jobs, they get away with everything - namely, making their own hours; overextending their earned, eligible length of annual vacation and sick days; and earning exorbitant pay for not doing much. No one gives a damn, so why should they leave to go elsewhere?

I don't really think too many people gave a shit about the front-page APP editorial because that paper's readership has been free-falling into the abyss ever since it changed its design and gutted its newsroom to the very marrow. For those who do read the APP and did catch the editorial, it caused a shrug and a sigh. The APP played a huge part in getting Christie elected gov, and it's like they're only now waking up to who he actually is. Enjoy sleeping in the bed you've made, idiots.

    the new Enquirer?


    The real question in Cincinnati is will advertisers.

    In its push to position what is really little more than a short tabloid as a new format with innovation as its purpose, the Enquirer yet again shared yesterday that “people recall the ads about 20 percentage points higher in the new print edition than the current one.

    Considering the new format is roughly one-third less in size no one should be surprised ads stand out as there’s less space for them, a revelation that didn’t need testing, just common sense.

    And common sense seems to the big, multi-million dollar question as when Buchanan was asked last week if full-page ads would cost less with this change she replied “ We are delivering the same audience…greater recall of ads in the new format… more impact for the same big audience is a good deal”. In short, no.

    Common sense suggest most, if not all, advertisers won’t be pleased with pricing that they will see as higher because they have less space to share their message. And that’s on top of concerns increasingly more have held due to the Enquirer’s long shrinking print audience.

    Frankly, the Enquirer's “smaller format with greater impact” marketing tactic sounds nice, but in reality, it’s hard to believe enough advertisers will buy what it seems increasingly desperate to sell.

    Falling short in its revenue goals will not be pretty, or fun given Buchanan's temperament.

  22. Another building GCI should sell is The downtown shit hole in Lafayette, In.Only a handful works their news and advertisers. Close it and put them in a rented building a quarter the size, = money savings. Keep it real, we should be doing this at every site

  26. Ford has not officially told PointRoll they are dumping them, but we heard through the grapevine that Andy Ellenthal and MediaMind won the business.

    This loss, among all the other losses to Flashtalking, will devastate PointRoll.

    It is official, Gannett hast prepared Pointroll for a sale and tried to "run a process", but there were no takers. Several people looked at the business, even many competitors, but no one even put a single offer out there.

    It looks like Gannett's attempts to sell the company prior to losing their largest client and prior to facing the ruling by the Congressional committee investigating it for privacy fraud did not work.

    Now for Plan B!

  28. "It's all about content" I am so sick of this jargon. This is a code word for volume. Turn out tons of news, tumble the same old information around, update it, change it, regurgitate other people press releases, post a picture or video, write an article for an advertiser. Is it valuable? Sure, but people won't pay for it; it is not worth much. This is the free stuff. People pay for Journalism if there is some there, content is the free stuff that fills up the spaces. All the Gannet papers I have read recently should be free, with the exception of USAToday.

  30. "Content" is term you use when you need something to fill a distribution channel. Google, Yahoo, ESPN, Cable TV, and the Drudge report use term like "content" internally. They need stuff to feed to the masses and they need it cheap, close to free. Do you think the Economist's editors talk about their product using terms like content? Think about that and then think about Gannet's plummeting circulation numbers. This is a content company and the consumer thinks the product should be free because the product is comparable to the content you get everywhere else for free.
