ReplyDeleteThe parallels to Gannett in this article are striking.
ReplyDeleteThe Terrible Management Technique That Cost Microsoft Its Creativity

Shreveport is serving all employees hotdogs today. Does this takes the place of our 2012 raises? GPS employees were told no raises for 2012. July 4 has passed and we did not even raise the American flag at our site. Feeding us like children will not change anything. Can someone please let Bailey know that we would rather have our raises so we can buy our own hotdogs and can we please get an American flag for our empty flagpole?
ReplyDeleteRe: Detroit's impending cuts. The fact is, Detroit has been staffed in crazy ways for a long time. The Free Press actually employs someone *just to do contest entries.*
ReplyDeleteWho's that for? It's certainly not for readers. It's for the editors' egos.
12:48 serving food is a nice gesture. Is a hot dog a raise, of course not but it is still nice that someone takes the time tp serve you. Stop being so damn negative and enjoy life. If you ahte it there then change employers. It really is that simple.
ReplyDeleteThe Banikarim video is a hoot. She doesn't have a clue what she is talking about. Must be that glass of wine she keeps waving around. Martore sure knows how to pick them, doesn't she?
ReplyDeleteNo more whoop whoop whoops from the crystal tower. Stock is sinking right back down as usual.
ReplyDelete12:48 I am with you 2:34 get off the blog during work and go to work if you are so dedicated. First it was ice cream and cake now its hotdogs. 12:48 is simply saying we want a raise. The flagpole is empty and our neighbors all flys their flags. Is it too much to ask for a raise and a flag?
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't Maryam Banikarim send us one of her silly on-the-road ego trips from Cannes France?
ReplyDelete3:24, Because dumb people do dumb things when working for a dumb company and have nothing of value to do. Activity vs. productivity is the Gannett way.
ReplyDeleteCincinnati's new iPhone app has a bug!

Interesting quote selection.
The original quote used "dislike", so she paraphrased.
How's that Groupon IPO Going?
ReplyDeleteHere's your answer:

New day, new 52-week low.
When MB proclaims the Friggin' Chicken should get an IPO, she will have officially jumped the shark.
If you haven't seen it yet, this piece from the Detroit Fox station, by a past Pulitzer winner, is absolutely brilliant:

Drudge is linking to it now, so it has gone viral.
Don't think I see any Freep readers in the video, though.

ReplyDeleteWorked for Z directly at one point in my time. Everybody loves him. He was fair to a fault.
ReplyDeleteGANNETT IS BAIN!!!!
ReplyDeleteHey Gannett- can we get some actual journalism in our newspapers? The photo essays about things to do around town, best local businesses, and summer cocktails are getting old. High school newspapers have more news these days.
ReplyDeleteOur local big shots are once again called to their bosses. Has nobody heard of a goddamn telephone?
ReplyDeleteJeez, use one of the iPads (maybe the one that went to your wife instead of editorial) and use the facetime program, if you really need that 'face time'.
There is no good reason to fly executives around for meetings - we're supposed to be a digital company, let's try it first where it impacts our customers least and our bottom line the most.
If your not looking for a job, your crazy. This company sucks and it's leaders are taking the ship down fast. They are screwing all of us, well it's time to put the screws to them. Plan A is underway
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of raises, the annua review was changed so that everyone gets theirs at the same time. That time was a while back... time flies..anybody getting raises?
ReplyDeleteEveryone in my USCP midwest group department got a raise. Not enough to make up for the 1.8% hit we take for every week of furlough, but a (very) little something.
ReplyDeleteIndication of a company on the move is whether or not they are hiring talent for the front line or for the management layer. Front line hires indicate movement and strategy. Management expansion indicates settling into a pattern or future purchases. Declining employment numbers are not always bad, but do indicate a recoil from strategy and a withdrawal from a degree of confidence. When you invest, you do want to see healthy growth in the front lines .. Not too fast, not too slow. You do want to see talent flocking TO the company.

ReplyDelete8:27, Gannett often confuses talent with management layers. Adding vice presidents the way Kim Kardashian amasses p.r.
