Sponsors | How $30 instantly becomes $45

Since announcing a new fundraising challenge by a generous Gannett Blogger in Alabama, I've now received a $20 gift from a reader who's remained anonymous, and a $10 one from a reader in Texas.

My Alabama fan has agreed to a 1:2 match for every dollar in contributions I receive through the end of the month, up to a total match of $200. So, they're adding $15 to the $30 in donations I've just taken in.

Combined with advertising, this brings me to 64% of my quarterly goal. But with just 11 days remaining, I've got a long, l-o-n-g way to go. The breakdown so far:
  • Reader donations: $602
  • Advertising: $1,978
I'm trying to earn $4,000 quarterly, through donations of $5 per reader, plus advertising sales. Please use the PayPal "Donate" or "Subscribe" tools in the green rail, upper right. Or mail cash and checks payable to: Jim Hopkins, 584 Castro St. #823, San Francisco, Calif., 94114-2594.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
