Without a doubt Robin Pence hasn't moved on. The only person who would defend her would be her... cause her "one" fan left the building when he retired due to disability. No one else was fooled by the pearls. Her lack of skills -- both the day to day and her mgmt style was lacking. And you just had to ask those she tortured on daily basis. Oh to be a fly on the wall in the office where she tortures people now...
ReplyDeleteHer management style was lacking? You could say that of most at the Crystal Palace.
DeleteThere wasn't a lick of work being done that amounted to much under Hunke. And what was being done was all smoke and mirrors. Rudd Davis. Need I say more? And what about Susie Ellwood. She produced any results in her tenure. Oh yah, she did feel good notes to the staff. That's showing some really leaderhsip
ReplyDeleteShe is still around. doing what? Not clear.
DeleteCome on people. The blog is getting dull. Stop posting insults to people long gone from Gannett.
ReplyDeleteTruth is most people who are now gone are better off.
Change the topic.
Patch shows more growth than any gannett site

So what needs to change, 2:26? Astonish us with your great knowledge of the business world.
ReplyDeleteBe specific. Don't just say, "We need better morale." Give us some tips.
1. Streamlined management. we dont needs scores of executives with fancy titles who add nothing to the bottom line.
Delete2. A business plan with a buy in for employees that ends the constant overhang of furloughs and layoffs.
3. Directors familiar with news media and successful business models.
4. Cash flow directed at building better products instead of share buybacks and dividend hikes that create a floor for the stock price.
5. Less rah rah crap like Purpose Walls.
Delete6. Better use of marketing budgets. Do we really get anything out of Cannes? Seriously.
7. Get rid of those who fail (banikarim, micek, hunke, motiff, frank, hillkirk) instead of rewarding them with cush jobs.
DeleteWhen is the new USA Today website launching?
ReplyDelete2:31 Certainly, it will be before USAT's 30th anniversary, on Sept. 15.
ReplyDelete2:17 p.m. Notice how the Patch story was written by Patch. You're so gullible.

ReplyDelete@2:52 is that really up for 36 days?! I remember it was a deal of the day.

ReplyDeleteTimes-Picayune announcement of 200 employees losing their jobs
ReplyDeleteThe Birmingham News, the (Mobile) Press-Register and The Huntsville Times laying off 400 employees.
Lots of folks at the Purpose Party. Sorry but we had a good time!!!
ReplyDeleteWhy do you all insist on kicking around the marketing or advertising departments? We can only sell and promote what you in the newsrooms produce -- and that has been and continues to be juvenile crap -- in print, online, vertically and otherwise. The population -- and that includes advertisers -- don't stop reading the products because of bad marketing.

ReplyDeleteEnough about Robin Pence already. She did her best and she has moved on. I sure don't see the new guy stirring B2B or B2C with any great Gannett publicity.
ReplyDeleteJust where IS the new guy?
DeleteThe Purpose Party at Tysons was great. Lots of people and lots of treats. We actually had a good time.
ReplyDeleteYes, weve bought into Marie Antoinmartore's Let Them Eat Ice Cream philosophy.
Deletehave to wonder if Larry Kramer is having sec
Robin Pence found a much better job at a much better company. Instead of knocking her you should be following her lead.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sorry I wasn't at the party of purpose.
ReplyDeleteI have a job to do and I was doing it. Your wall changes nothing.
I'm sure you did. Did you enjoy drinking my kool aid?
ReplyDeleteI had a great time. Loved the ice cream. Loved Gracia's welcome speech and appreciate the wall. I know no one wants us to appreciate these kinds of events but I did!!
DeleteWith Mobile cutting back production, what's going on with Pensacola which is printed in Mobile every night? It won't be going to Montgomery since they're printing Columbus nightly and don't have the press window.
ReplyDeleteAlso regarding commercial jobs. It worked well in Montgomery. There are few press windows available there with Columbus, Macon and other commercial jobs.
All you in the field are lucky to be spared this purpose wall bullshit.
ReplyDeleteYou're right. It's downright disrespectful when a company showcases the selfless contributions their colleagues make to their communities and their co workers. This nonsense has to end!!!!!
DeleteThe free ice cream almost made Martore's insufferable prattle worth it.
ReplyDeleteWhat meeting did you go to? We had a great time and Gracia praised the employees. I can see why you'd hate that.
DeleteHey 4:33: I'm sure many newsrooms would love to produce quality journalism but it's kinda hard to do when newsrooms are slashed to ridiculously low levels because advertising people are busy BSing instead of selling. Cuts both ways.
ReplyDeleteThanks 5:50 p.m., just as I suspected. Sorry you have deal to with it.
ReplyDelete3:50: Yes - it's still up and will be for another four days, according to the Chicken.
ReplyDeleteInteresting observation about today's Purpose meeting. The majority of the crowd was composed of Digital staff. This group sees and loves the future. They spend little time opining for decades gone by. And the ice cream was great!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis crew couldnt report or write its way out of their messenger bags.
Delete8:08 - It's great that she praised the employees, but her words mean nothing after all the years of abuse.
ReplyDeleteWhat Kate Marymont at the Purpose Wall party? Just what is the purpose of the vice president/news if she is invisible?
ReplyDeleteRobin its okay to move on. But then move on and dont just post pro Robin remarks on this site. Cause you didn't have a lot of fans when you were here -- so its sort of obvious when you venture over here to defend yourself. You weren't a fan fav on this site when you were here -- remember? no one was fooled then or now.
ReplyDeleteHow can anyone celebrate Purpose? Didn't Jim say only non-profits have one of those? I guess he considers Walmart, P&G, Dell, SouthWest, GE and a host of others in the non-profit arena. It would be nice if all those "would be journalists" Jim included bothered to do just a little fact checking every so often. Oy yah trust of the media is in short supply. That too most be someone else fault...
ReplyDeletePensacola announced a paywall is coming soon.

ReplyDeleteI love the digital people. They come dressed in flip flops and t shirts and look like they just rolled out of bed. They have fancy titles and a sense of entitlement. And they will attend any and every meeting where there is free food. Kind of reminds me of a herd of cattle.
ReplyDeleteWhat they lack is context. Experience in the trenches. Real world interactions. The ability to discern between corporate mantras and reality. The capacity to question leadership. They sure won't get any of this working in the Crystal Palace. But then, they probably don't really care.
Translation: "I only write for print a d hate the future."
DeleteHeh 9:09 have you ever met a reporter or better yet a print photographer? They invented the wrinkled, jeans, tshirt look!!!!!

11:19 lands a solid blow. It will hurt many of the people here who complain.
ReplyDeleteRiiiiiggggght.
DeleteIt will hurt many...? Oh honestly.
ReplyDeleteThe only people something like that could hurt are the ones brought up to get participation awards for showing up to class 3 days out of 5.
Or those who didn't get their pictures selected for the porpoise wall.
We have EAP counselors standing by to help heal your pain.
11:19, (and 3:52, perhaps one and the same) a d, or maybe you meant and?
ReplyDeleteYup, I can tell you write for the web.
I can't believe anyone still cares how someone DRESSES. What does that have to do with their JOB?! Last I heard, the job was the point. Crap packaged in a suit is still crap (hello, Crystal Palace!), but doing one's job -- and well -- happens whether one's in a suit or sandals. People still think the clothes matter? Sounds like clique snobbery to me, a feature of this company.

DeleteTake some pride in your appearance. people may respect you more.
DeleteNobody steal my idea. I'm starting a blog that aggregates really horribly crappy news site Web headlines. Should be a cakewalk. I just need to check Gannett sites for an hour or so on Monday and I'm done for the week.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, 5:55! Now you just have to beg for money, and you are set.
ReplyDeleteHey 6:04 I'd love to check out your blog. What's the URL?
ReplyDeleteSure thing, 6:49. You just ID yourself, and then I'll give you that URL.
