Two TV stations and the Detroit Free Press won a combined four prestigious Edward R. Murrow awards in the 2012 national competition sponsored by the Radio Television Digital News Association.

- KARE in Minneapolis-St. Paul for the category large market/video reporting: hard news ("Dramatic Rise in Homeless Teens"), and large market/writing (Boyd Huppert)
- KUSA in Denver for large market/video feature reporting ("Adde’s Lesson")
