  1. No serious, ethical news organization should have anything to do with what the White House Correspondents Dinner has become.

Any marketing organization that chooses to support a political function (of any party) is begging to alienate a portion of its target audiences.

Whichever Gannett is, attendance and support of this event should be reconsidered.

  2. In California employers are not expected to respond to a claim if the claimant was part of a RIF. Only if they quit or were fired. We were told by H.R. that they are preparing paperwork to send in. Why would they do that? Is that because of the severance pay tied into unemployment, or are they making an effort to deny claimants benefits.

Where is that fucking transparency you keep talking of Martore?

Is there something you are trying to hide?

    More dirty little secrets?

Do we have to wait to read about it in the Post?

Screw Gannett, I put in 4 years there and got out. Reading this blog keeps me informed and 100%
convinced that I made a good choice. If you hate Gannett as much as I do, keep looking - there are jobs out there. You will L-O-V-E being out of their cold, dead clutches.

Well said. I also did my four years with Gannett and spent the last year diligently job hunting while collecting the paychecks (and kissing the ass of my moronic manager so as not to be suspect)until I walked out of there. There is a much, much better professional life beyond this dying company.

  5. Former Gannett employees who left on their own, without a RIF or EROP, did you give 2 weeks notice?

  6. The FCC wants TV stations to post their political advertising data online. Many TV station owners don't like it and are lobbying furiously to kill that plan. Gannett is one of those TV station owners.

  7. Perhaps Jim could file an FOI request to get the list of Gannett sycophants attending the WHC Dinner if no one else prints it.

  8. 11:10, thanks for the link.

You people are so clueless. The list was posted on the USA TODAY website days ago. Check Lifeline Live.

  10. Maybe Martha Stewart can make my house payment this month since my furlough money goes to this trash.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yep quite a conspiracy!!! USAT posted it online and yet the folks here scream for FOI responses. Way to stay engaged folks. Another clear example of expressing an opinion that you don't even bother to check out. Fair and balanced as always

  14. Oh, we're supposed to read "Lifeline Live"?

Sorry, I was busy reading Your Life instead. Got stuck in my vertical and couldn't get out.

  16. Screw the list of freeloading celebrities exploiting Gannett. We want to know what Gannett so-called leaders and their families and freeloading friends are attending.

You're fucking insane, Martore, if you think the days of your indulgent executive crew living it up are going to keep going on and on.

RELEASE ALL THE GANNETT LIST NOW.

  17. Just imagine if Jim was being paid under the table or even contracted by Martore and her henchwomen to reveal the name of each poster on this blog. How else is he making a living on just these $20 and $40 donations? As Jim says "Proceed with caution"

    ReplyDelete
  18. I always heard the rule NO husbands, NO wives, NO friends since this is classified as some kind of business dinner?

So hey Martore, where's my ticket? Ain't I a friend of yours? Can't this count as your #2 Periodic informal, in-person events with different leaders in smaller group settings.

I got better clothes than Hunke and won't drag my husband along like Banikarim.

  19. Too bad Heidi Zimmerman didn't get the top PR position. She deserves it after all she has had to handle these past few years with Pence's blunders and Hunke's big mouth.

  20. 2:10 It has not happened; it does not happen, and will not happen, because:

    1. I would never disclose names because I value my readers' privacy above all else.

    2. I don't even know the names of anonymous posters here.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Wow 2:10, someone at corporate must really be screaming to get this blog "shut down NOW".

    ReplyDelete
  22. Must be Banikarim's bunch, because Gannett Blog is starting to show up in page one on Google when you put her name in - so you know she wants this shut down pronto.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm surprised they haven't already paid off Jim just to make him go away. Martore and her bunch can't have their brand of transparency when this transparency keeps getting in their way.

    ReplyDelete
  24. "Wah wah, wah Gracia make it go away." Just another example of Martore, Banakarim, Ellwood, Micek and Frank and their dirty little secrets.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Maybe Banikarim will invite Jim as her date to the WHC dinner and to France just to shut him up or at least to give her some ego-feeding press.

  28. When @3:50 PM as other than using Gannett to build her personal brand and Klout score no one’s yet to be able to share anything material Banikarim’s done for this company since her arrival, including you.

Moreover, please save more of her keen insights like Gannett’s Hometown Advantage as employees having been leveraging that for years – and they didn’t need an agency to point it out at great expense.

  29. 2:05 PM really put it out there.

What clowns are representing Gannett and USA Today at the WHC dinner. Shouldn't guests be from newsroom only. Or does this bunch fancy themselves journalists as well as media business wizards.

    Release all the names now.

    ReplyDelete
  30. 3:36, that actually makes a lot of sense. They paid Dubow $37 million to go away -- you'd think it would be worth $100K or so to get Jim to shut down his blog. He might not take it, but it wouldn't be crazy for them to offer.

Someone else could start it up again, but it would be hard to build up the momentum, so it would remove a thorn in their side for a while, at least.

  32. WHAT DOES GANNETT 'BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT' DO?

This, from a former "Forbes" reporter --

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/christophersteiner/2012/04/24/biz-dev-is-a-clever-name-for-dirty-work/?feed=rss_home

" .. Biz dev at a startup involves making hard phone calls over and over again. It involves locking yourself in a room and not coming out until you’ve scheduled three other meetings in that third-tier city on the other side of the country where, even if you had the budget, there isn’t a four-star hotel to be slept in. Biz dev at a startup means taking your fancy degrees, putting them in the basement and filling the place with cement. They mean nothing .."

Of course, selling lousy-quality products is no cake-walk, either.

  33. The Journal News posted a "story" on their LoHud site today about the upcoming pay wall, to be started on May 2. The article contains NO options for the readers and NO subscription rates. Seems to me, though I am merely a reader and not a journalist, that prices and options are pretty basic information. There is a "visit the website" link (which is not yet giving any info either), a phone number, and an e-mail address. I sent the following:

"I am not interested in a print subscription, as I do not live in New York. I did, however, grow up in Rockland County and still have an interest in the news from that area. Will there be a digital-only option available, and if so, what will the price be?

"Our local paper (non-Gannett) instituted a pay wall about a year ago, but they do offer free access to breaking news, some opinion pieces and obits. Is there any possibility that Gannett/Journal News will do the same?

"As LoHud did not print the options or the subscription rates in the article and May 2 is rapidly approaching, I will expect a prompt reply to this inquiry.

    Thank you."

I don't really expect a prompt reply, and I kind of hope the paper gets slammed with e-mails and phone calls asking for the info which could easily have been posted in the article.

  34. 11:10 Partially true...Gannett doesn't want individual political ates disclosed in real time because of potential price-fixing and anti-trust issues...but they're actually part of a group of broadcasters that agree that identification of PAC spenders is good public policy, and they agree that who is buying political advertising and how much they spend should be disclosed. TV Newscheck wrote a column about that a couple weeks ago or so I think.

  35. Jim, what happened to the rumor about those publishers all stepping down this week? Got the proof yet? Wait -- that would mean it's true. And that's doubtful at best.

Funny how you are now pretending that none of that happened. Just as with all the other rumors here.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
