  1. Here's a prime example of how arming your stsff with iPhone technology can boost your top-notch video coverage. NOT!!! Judge for yourself...

  2. Ahh, the team of Meesey and Sangalang... and look their mentor Stover makes a guest appearance in their little video! Keep up the good work kids!

  3. The two individuals credited for the video were the "entertainment reporter" and the "multimedia desk editor."
I guess the business editor was unavailable to cover the business non-story.
    Excellent audio work.

  4. We are getting closer to the March 30 deadline for buyout offers to be accepted or refused. Is there any discussion about how many layoffs there will be following in April?
Certainly this is not a dead issue,as employee expense will still need to be adjusted downward.

  5. Corporate attorney's and outside legal counsel have stormed the Pointroll offices in King of Prussia this past weekend. Looks like Rob Gatto is almost out the door along with his partner in crime Sarah Ripmaster.

  6. Using my furlough week to train for a new career-actually start part time later this week.

I want to give a big thank you to Gannett executives for the opportunity to have the time to get the training and education needed to get out of this piss poor company.

  7. Good job, 9:21. Without giving yourself away, provide some details about how you're able to take what you already do and transition to something else. Would be helpful for this crowd, which has a bit too many members who have selected "defeated" as their default setting.

  8. 8:43 we know we're getting the axe in Appleton when we roll to the hub. Just don't know for sure who or when.

  9. Just because iPhones can shoot video doesn't mean they are a suitable substitute for professional-grade video equipment. The audio on that FL Today segment is terrible.

At least use the iPhones in the right setting - breaking news, for example. Shooting footage at a crowded event like that without proper equipment just makes you look like an amateur.

  10. 9:21,
We have all spent our own money on education and training, to advance in our skills. Remember, there are those in the world with multiple advanced degrees.

  15. Yes, my dear colleagues, newspapers are going away, and so are the companies that own them.

If I lived in Salem, I would buy this and go with some friends & sisters. I always admire the embroidered pillows in the metropolitan retail stores like Crate & Barrel.

  18. 9:21 responding to 9:33.

Using the management skills I use daily at Gannett to transition into the career field where my wife is successful(healthcare). I am using her contacts to learn of job openings, and am assisting her on the job to gain experience. It's not something that can be done overnight, I started last September and should graduate and be fully certified by May. This week is great to get some extra studying done, plus she just picked up a side job where I am getting training now.

For nearly 20 years, I was the breadwinner. With no raise since 2008, furloughs, and no incentive plans anymore, enough is enough. Gannett can give millions to execs but can't give $10 a week to the ones busting humps in the field to do the job. It's time to ride her coattails to get the contacts, training, and experience to be happy in a job again.

  19. Hey, 6:29 AM: I'd really like to see what you're talking about, but my complimentary access has run out and I don't really want to pay $12 a month! Oh, well ...

  20. So, Pew comes out with a report that says that newspapers basically are dying (losing $7 in print revenue for every $1 gained in digital revenue) and the GCI stock price jumps 3.44%! Go figure.

  21. 6:23 I think you can just delete your cookies and it will give you 15 more articles. I thin kI would call that a softwall, or maybe porous.

  22. PointRoll's CEO Rob Gatto has been shopping the company. DG approached Gannett with an offer. Should DG successfully aquire the company many PointRoll emplyees would become redundant.

  23. Yes,Gannett print products will die a slow death.Stock is up a bit now but face it,it was once near $90.00,is that really up at $15.00?
Question is,why are all remaining Gannett employees facing death along with the corportion? The top guns get richer each year, but does the average Gannett worker? Hell no.Face it you make less and less each year and you work harder each year.Do you think those at the top give a damn.Hell no! You are just so gullible and so expendable! You make the revenue, such as it is,keep rolling in and the corporation continues on for another year. Does this mean Gannett will promise you a job for another year.Hell no! You could be gone tommorrow and Gannett wouldn't blink an eye or shed a tear no matter how loyal and outstanding a worker you might be.
    Truth hurts,I know.

  24. Gosh does this guy post the same message every day? Same words, same gloom and doom, same negativity. So quit already!!!!!!

  25. Yes, he does. Same lousy typing skills every time, same message beaten to death every time.

  26. Ok, let's here the positive mantra spin. Does it involve baseball bats and lots of self congratulatory back slaps? Wildly exhorbitant revenue projections? More we've got the right team in place to do the right job? I thought that was the $37 million man's legacy, not Gracia's.
