Why your editor may be looking dizzy today

"Embrace the blur."

-- slogan jokingly adopted by some top U.S. newspaper editors to describe the speed of change Corporate is mandating under the new "Content Evolution" strategy. That includes a greater emphasis on digital reporting and delivery, and on news "Passion Topics" of greatest interest to readers. It was presented to editors and publishers during a series of meetings last week at headquarters in McLean, Va.

  1. Again "emphasis on digital" inferring turning their backs on print. Yet they run 38 percent returns at Florida on Sunday! The further we go down the road the more this company is insane. turn your back on what "brung you to the dance" for something that will never be as good, or as powerful. Something about the printed word that will never be replaced by a cyber word!

  2. Wow, this is mis-informed. That slogan has been used for at least six months and it originated AT Corporate, not in response to Corporate.

  3. 4:45 If it's an official slogan, and editors have turned it into a joke -- well, you can see how things are looking in the field.

  4. If you embrace the local, local, local blur and click your heels, you can end up in Des Moines!

  5. This article is getting passed around in Reno. Everyone at USCP newsrooms should also read it.

  6. Why would they say anything different, after all Publish2 sells a content management solution......

  7. Cmon - that Publish2 blog piece is just an ad for their CMS:

"We designed Publish2 for newsrooms to overcome all of these limitations and more, without actually changing any of these legacy editorial systems or spending a dime on upgrading them."

I'm not sure what is so interesting to the Reno folks ...

  8. Definitely a promo piece for Publish2. But speaking as someone who's in Newsgate hell, it does very appealing. Just get me out of this miserable system!
