  1. I'd like to know what is happening in the south, southweat corner of the Journal News building in Westchester ?

  2. The Journal News building is in the process of being sold, Building will be demolished and full service gym complex is going on that spot. Journal is moving to new digs probably in spring/summer. this has been in the works for almost two years.

  3. Jim, I appreciated your experiment with locking out new comments on the old 'news & comments' threads when new parts are open.

I think it eliminates cross-posting of the same comments but more importantly, when I drop in once or twice a day I can visit fewer threads to get up to date.

Granted, you do get more clicks that way; but for this user, it's a wash. I'll only click on the newest links unless a specific thread has interest.

    Thanks.

  4. I tend to think threads with more than 50 comments are unwieldy, which is why I create new ones when they pass that milestone.

Still, that doesn't mean I have to lock the previous thread.

I'll keep your thoughts in mind in the future.

  6. Who cares when peeps go to conventions, travel wherever. It's nickles and times and all deductable. A learning experience, maybe, but really, who cares. Get with it people.

  7. Gannett should go ahead and fire everyone they are going to fire so that the three remaining reporters at each metro paper can have a salary that actually pays enough to live on. Everyone I know who works for gannett is planning on leaving in a few months because they can no longer afford to live in the cities where they work. Won't it be funny if many leave at the same time and there are no more slaves left to run the plantation.

    1. Why don't you post your slave salary. I'm sure the folks in Salinas will feel for you.

  8. Regarding tonight's Oscars, once more The New York Times has a handy Oscars dashboard on its homepage, with tabs to pictures, a ballot, and other items.

(Sigh) I was there when it went up, had a lot of "fun" times there. Sad to see it go.

Archery practice and hockey in paper storage.

Hot dog sales in the reel room.

Nefarious things in the mail room. (OOPS! Distribution center.)

You don't want to know what was happening in the parking lot.

And the all time favorite delight of "Frontier Soup" in the cafeteria.

It will all come out in my book.

    ;-)

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
