Other than Dubow’s departure nothing’s fundamentally changed about Gannett in the past year or so as revenues and employee ranks continue to decline yet the pro-Gannett posts here have notably improved which clearly suggests a concerted effort by some to reshape the discussion here.So, for those engage in it please share why anyone would want to work for this company.

What gets me about the Gannett Blog is the sheer childishness.Lots of workplaces go sour, lots of bosses are jerks, lots of people, me included, have lost their jobs over the years.You just move on. Maybe grumble to friends or whatnot, but to carry on like this, continually lambasting what was, past bosses, those who took over and everything else is really immature.Everyone knows you don't go into an interview criticizing the place you used to work or your last poss -- that just shows you're going to be a problem. But here, all that bad mojo just spills out continually.Say it once and move on. But picking at this workplace memory over and over is just plain immature and foolish. Grow up and find something you like.

Don't be hard on the folks from corporate. They are being forced to take there direction from a bunch of buzzword spewing MBA's who have never accomplished anything tangible in their careers. But boy they sound impressive doing nothing. Meanwhile the rest of us, who live in the real world and do real work, and know more about the business have to take direction from these smart but incompetent folks. Most folks expect the folks at headquarters to be a bit detached and a bit of a pain but there is such a competence gap between the staff outside of HQ and the folks that make the money and it makes it hard to take anything you hear from HQ seriously.
So you cast stones at corporate yet you, and I mean you the poster, call yourself hardworking yet your revenue numbers are down, down, down. Me thinks you aren't doing a very good job.

Re: 10:08. It's hard to do a "good job" when you have an inferior product to sell.
On its biggest circulation day, the Cincinnati Enquirer devotes its lone staff-written editorial (which is averaging two or three per week!) to what is essentially a calendar item. The highlights:1. The Ohio primary is March 62. Ohioans will cast primary votes for a U.S. senator, all U.S. House seats, 16 state senators, 99 state House members and a host of local officials.3. The Enquirer will be offering "primers" on races in upcoming coverage.4. You can email our political editor with what you need to know.5. You can go to the Ohio Secretary of State's website to register by the Feb. 6 primary deadline.6. Here are some other sites you can see for election information.7. One paragraph of information for Kentucky voters.8. This inspirational kicker: "So many races -- but still enough time. The primaries are coming; you'll be prepared." This is what the Enquirer has come to. Most high school papers and most amateur bloggers do a better job.
Reading the comments on this blog from newspaper people compared to comments from the new media folks reminds me of the famous line from the James Bond movie, "Goldfinger" with Gannett as Goldfinger and the newspapers as Bond.Bond, tied up and subjected to a diabolical torture, asks, "Do you expect me to talk?"Goldfinger answers, "No, I expect you to die, Mr. Bond."
Jim, you seem convinced Gannett will be announcing a new business model this week. Don't think the meeting will be as much about that as it will be a pep rally for the strategic plan. And buyouts announced very soon.
So, what if a site that needs a reduction in force does not have buyout takers? Or enough? Is there a layoff back-up plan that will then go into effect? I believethere will not be enough volunteers,contrary to all here who say they will welcome the chance, to fill the numbers that Gannett needs to reduce.
Let me make a recommendation: If you're over 50, have a decade or two with the company and are offered the chanced for a buyout or early retirement, take it! That package is FAR better than being laid off - take it from someone who knows! Look at the ages of your fellow workers who have been laid off over the past few years.
