Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."

Another day, another plan to reinvent the wheel. Throw more spaghetti at the wall, see what sticks. So exhausting and ridiculous. How about letting us do our jobs, reporting, writing, editing, producing news that people are interested in? How's that for an idea?
ReplyDeleteWay too much use of common sense, 10:15. Go heavier on the buzz words and catch phrases...and put some PASSION in your TOPIC!
ReplyDelete"All editorial staff now work from PCs with e-mail and Internet capability."
ReplyDeleteWhoa! Amazing!

How funny, 11:51, you must have struck a nerve because the page you cite can no longer be viewed.... but the higher ups don't pay attention to this blasted blog.
ReplyDeleteSpeakin' of rocking new technology, was the NewsGate outage Tuesday evening a national issue or just a local one at my site? How again is NG going to make our papers better? Anyone?
ReplyDeleteIt was out in Louisville for 40 minutes or so. I was wondering if it only stopped page flow here, or for all L'ville design center customers.
DeleteRoughly an hour late for all press runs in Ft. Myers.

ReplyDeleteI don't know if it's related to the NG issues but we lost all Wave2 functionality last night for about an hour - no obits for anyone across USCP.
ReplyDeleteThe one source of revenue that literally delivers itself to our front door and we can't seem to keep it running two weeks in a row.
We have a chief digital officer. What does he do all day? Too many chiefs, not enough problem solvers.
ReplyDeleteWe have a digital guy who excels at sending out condescending e-mails.
ReplyDeleteTheres a lot of that spread around corporate. It looks like it's getting thicker, too.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very sad state of affairs when a company is about to release a new business model and instead of energizing the rank and file, it scares them to death. That speaks volumes to me.
ReplyDeleteNewsgate was running like crap yesterday and had to be taken down for "emergency repairs" around 7:25 p.m. eastern last night. Please tell me which one of the five overpaid failures gets a bonus for that decision. Typing a word and waiting, waiting, waiting for it to appear on the screen is so 1988.
ReplyDeleteJim, allowing the Happy Pressman to continue to post this stuff is sapping the little credibility you had left.
ReplyDeleteSpeed of the group is speed of the leader, 9:33.
ReplyDeleteJim, The Happy Pressman has great idea;s and facts. Don't let the hatters take him off the blog. Most of the time he is right, and down right funny to boot. Freedom of speach is all we want on thus blog Jim
ReplyDeleteHappy Trails
10:18 I haven't banned him/her. But I do edit people now and then.
ReplyDeleteThe Happy Pressman sneaks in a concealed post at 10:18. Jim falls for it.
ReplyDeleteCredibility continues to plummet here.
So many bitter people, such a small space.
ReplyDeleteHappy Pressman rules! And I'm not even a pressman.
ReplyDeleteHow much cash-per-post is corp paying these days, 10:36?
For the outages...anyone look into the sun's blast hitting earth yesterday? It complicated things in a number of places Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteOne of my arguements against going online only. Just the right satellite goes down or internet hubs gets fried...whatever will we do for news?
Can anyone tell me why USCP circulation folks would be in the Washington, D.C. metro area earlier this week? Not executives, managers.
ReplyDeleteYer killin' me Jim. The mom's basement stuff is classic.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I have worked for GCI, now GPS for well over 20 years, at several different papers. During this time I have held many positions and forged several relationships with GCI personnel. I like to keep up with the blog and I like to give what ever information I deem true on the blog, as well as my own opinions on different subjects. Yes, I sometimes eject humor into my posts, but why not, it's not like everything is smelling like a rose these days. I am by no means a troll as one person suggested..just a pressman who used to care for our company, who see's it going down the drain very fast. I have sent Jim email's containing sensitive information and have been right on several posts. So i will just leave it at that.

More evidence that the newspaper industry is capsizing (this sad merger will certainly lead to layoffs): http://www.naa.org/News-and-Media/Press-Center/Archives/2012/American-Press-Institute-Merges-With-Newspaper-Association-of-America-Foundation.aspx
ReplyDeleteThe board members of both of these groups are not the sharpest knives in the drawer, but sharp enough to cut your throat.
@jackshafer says that Joan Biskupic is joining Reuters. Big loss for USAT if true
ReplyDeleteto @3:31PM
ReplyDeleteThe only reason you are so happy is because you have all that money stashed away. I got out with only about 50K after taxes. But I am much happier than I was there and you will be MUCH happier after you leave.
Thanks for the bits of information you are sharing. Yes the stock seems to be performing well, but it has got to make corporate nervous when they read these posts!
Big loss in what way? Tell me three stories that really stand out in a decade of coverage for the paper.
ReplyDeleteWhy would you have paid taxes? You didn't cash out your 401k
ReplyDelete3:31:
ReplyDeleteWhat have you been right on? Be specific. Say when you predicted things and what you predicted. Anybody can be an expert after the fact.
Also, anyone who thinks would know you posted at 10:18. I would bet a pile of cash that you will give yourself away on that one very quickly.
Its common knowledge my friend, go back threw the blog and read it, you will find many articles and predictions that I stated would happen and did. I don't have time to go digging to please a hatter like yourself
ReplyDeleteThe Happy Pressman
3:31 How about writing a story for this evenings paper, I assume your a journalist, if you want some facts, start looking around . Isn't that you job. Pile up all the cash you want, I have a few million laying around
