Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."

ReplyDeleteLet's hope for a great week ahead.
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday paper showed up at 4:55 this morning. THAT'S a good start.
ReplyDeleteMaybe now with the W-2s being e-mailed (allegedly) we'll get them earlier. Anyone get their W-2 yet?
Why didn't you sign up for electronic delivery. In this day and age why would you want a mailed copy?
DeleteThis is the week that 2011financials are released.Don't expect a good week!
ReplyDeleteFor those of you who are still thinking you have a long term carreer with Gannett, get over that idea!
Smart phones and smart technology does not create smarter employees.
ReplyDeleteI'm a 52 year old Courier Journal employee and I'm sick hearing that the buyout offer is for 56 and older. I hate working for this greedy company. Come on Gracia, lower the age requirement and you can hire somebody at half my salary that gives a shit whether Gannett survives or not.
ReplyDeleteW2's aren't emailed. From a work computer you can access your payroll webpage (same place you can print your paystubs) and download one from there.
ReplyDeleteIf you're not in the corporate intranet, you won't be able to view the W2.
8:48, take a pill. Most places outside Gannett still send the W-2s, by snail mail.
ReplyDelete11:25 None of this buyout speculation has been made official. We shouldn't get too far ahead.
ReplyDeleteWe get access to W2s on line and through the mail. But, thank God, we don't work for Gannett. This is like driving by a car wreck. One slows to take a look then speeds on thankful it wasn't you.
ReplyDeleteAll: Is your newspaper publisher and editor headed to Corporate for a big pow-wow next week?
ReplyDeleteCould the early retirement "buyout" package be announced to Grand Poobahs during this pow-wow?
ReplyDelete6:03 If the buyouts exist, the editors and publishers already know.
ReplyDeleteDuh!!!! Wow you are an Oracle
DeleteOur editor was there all last week. Our pub isn't going anywhere, though we aren't in the top 33, unless something changed Friday or this weekend.
ReplyDeleteThe publishers and obviously all the staff know about the buyout program. It's hardlly a secret. People who aren't going to be of age when it's offered are not happy. So many people want out, it's sad.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny. No one is having trouble hiring anyone. If you're so unhappy find another job.
DeleteExec editor of CJ in Louisville was at corporate all last week
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. He was judging a contest but nice try at trying to create a rumor.
DeleteDoes anyone in house even read the LoHud homepage? This headline has been up for more than two hours on the front page of LoHud:
ReplyDeleteLoHud.com's Mike Dougherty tweets from the Giants game in San Fransisco.
Never mind the lack of an apostrophe after "Giants," but San Francisco misspelling is absolutely sophomoric.
Jim,
ReplyDeleteBuyouts are real. Will be announced very soon.
Publishers meeting will reveal new strategic plan. Kool aid will be served.
There are NO buy outs planned in the future. You people never cease to amaze me. 7:32 nailed it right on the head. Now get back to work.
ReplyDeleteYet another new strategic plan?!? Awesome! Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteMaybe they will kick passion topics/content evolution to the curb before it even gets started, letting us information providers in the "information centers" concentrate on actually writing news stories instead of fitting into some stupid corporate box. So I say bring on another strategic plan. Maybe this time they will lay off everyone left in the newsroom, errr, information center, and just send out blank papers and hope no one notices. At some papers, the quality of content won't be much different! They will save a lot of money so they can pay even bigger bonuses.
Hitler's take on Gannett buying iPhones for newsrooms is pretty funny:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Q7sgLcQ6lCw
Have any newsrooms received theIr new toys yet?
ReplyDelete@9:22 p.m. 7:22? What? Where? You need to be more aware of your surroundings.
ReplyDeleteNew toys? At USA today, they always go out to the editors, first.give them to the people who need them the least.
ReplyDelete@9:22 - Wishful thinking-Our EE announced corporate video training for Feb. 2 which features a star studded cast of all your favorite overpaid executives. Smells like "passion topics" to me. Prepare to get your minds sucked out. Maybe they'll pass out mood elevation pharmaceuticals prior to the presentation.
ReplyDeletePlus there is a giant banner in the lobby which reads "The Evolution will be televised and tweeted and Facebooked and Livestreamed and.." Way to pick a slogan that no one under 45 will know the source material of.
Now all we need is the equipment promised to us to do it, since so many of us use our own laptops, smart phones, and cameras since the company equipment is so outdated.
Kool Aid is now being served.
Excuse me, I meant @ 9:32
ReplyDelete7:40
ReplyDeleteat least you got your paper, thet don't give a shit about MON-Sat, Sunday is all they care about
