  1. Who needs Metromix bar shots when we've got USA Today action sports subsidiary BNQT.

This week we've got the Bouldering Babes Gallery, "dedicated to some gorgeous gals getting a grip on some hard rock." Hah! Best photo from the gallery.

  4. Robin Pence's LinkedIn page (http://www.linkedin.com/in/robinpence) identifies her as "Vice President, Special Projects" since November 2011. ("Responsible for strategic communications in newly created position.")

  5. a note on yesterday's blog. the 2012 budget was built with the expected drop in print circulation due to paywall. it's a planned move. print less spend less for newsprint, ink , labor. 40% drop is expected and budgeted. now come the cuts and buyouts.

  6. 12:14..why does anybody think the paywall will drop print circulation? Paywall may in fact drive more people to the print copy. The thing that will hurt print is the idiotic price raise of the Sunday paper...here at least...to 3 dollars.

It's just a shame the drive to digital is forsaking the print edition. There is no reason whatsoever why print and digital can't coexist...except the fact it would take people who actually know what they're doing.

    1. And people who actually want to read a newspaper. Wake up. The horse breeders used to say, "There is a place fot the horse and that new fangled car thing." I didn't see any horses on I 10 yesterday.

  7. There is an article in News & Technology Wich is an honest publication about the industry. That mentions that the majority of papers have an increase in circulation after the introduction of pay walls.

  8. You're comparing horses and cars to newspapers? Cute.

And those circ. numbers are a combination of print and online, not just print.

  9. 9:58, you could, you know, set up a link to those. Or one of those.

You must be one of those people who has someone at the office print your e-mail for you. Copy, stat!

  13. To the " Stock at $15.00 and I made money " from yesterday.
    I don't need a course in economics,
I just didn't think that anyone who works for Gannett and is on this blog, would buy Gannett stock in the last year and and half at the low price and knowing all we know .

  15. Look, first... let's not be prudes here and be honest. There really isn't anything wrong with all those "Monster Babes" and "Red Bull Girls" photos on BNQT.

That's their thing... that's their niche and they are playing up the legs and cleavage for all its worth. Fine.

Why this is any issue at all is the sheer hypocrisy of it all on Gannett's part. Gannett's name is very prominent on these sites, as well as the MetroMix sites with all the drunk cleavage shots of 22-year-old club-goers.

The "humor" and hypocrisy in all this is that for years, Gannett has preached and preached and waved its corporate finger at all of us about "women's empowerment" and diversity and fighting sexual harassment in the work place and all their seminars and training...

And I am sure that all these photos would be banned from ANY Gannett workplace. And an argument can be made that by putting their name on these sites as the owner, Gannett is, in fact, encouraging the demeaning of women as sexual objects - and contributing to the sexual harassment of women.

Basically, the issue is not the photos, in my opinion, but the fact that Gannett is wanting to have it both ways - a corporate champion in the fight against sexual harassment and hiring women, and also to profit from photo galleries of photos like a gallery of "Red Bull hotties doing their thing ...... From sassy sample girls to Art of Flight attendants..." that objectify and demean women for the purpose of making money.

Gannett can't have it both ways.

  16. 8:57 is what comes out the back end. Pure pile of crap.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yes, Gannett wants it both ways because they only want the money they don't stand for anything, other than a way to make a buck.
In the corporate world you won't be taken seriously unless you support women and minorities; so they do to make money.

On the web sites it's boobs that make the money, so they are all for it. If they world changed so that it was profitable to to something else, even if it was wrong, Gannett would do it.

This is what happens when there is no soul to a company. Yes, Gannett will be profitable for a time, but they have lost their soul and their mission.
And for over half of the people who work here, or have worked here, it was about the soul and meaning of the business as well as making a decent living.

  18. WELL SAID, 10:28. It is sheer hypocrisy.

  19. @ 9:39 AM. You clearly do need a lesson in economics. THE WHOLE IDEA IS TO BUY LOW! That's how you make money. I added about 5k of GCI when it was under $4 and held on to it. Do the math.
