Scattered reports of production, circ layoffs today

A small but growing number of Gannett Bloggers have been posting comments about layoffs in production and circulation today at sites including Louisville, Ky., and Jackson, Miss.

For example, Anonymous@3:22 p.m. wrote: "I just heard the production manager for Jackson, MS was laid off. Any other layoffs taking place?"

These sounds like some of the cuts promised when the mammoth Gannett Publishing Services division was launched in September.

The Great Recession gets the blame for much of this. But that's not the only problem. Corporate deadbeats have contributed immensely.

  8. Sounds like they're letting people go a few at a time to garner as little attention as possible. Merry freakin' Christmas from Gannett.
