Sponsors | From N.Y., Ind., and Tenn.: $50

I'm happy to acknowledge recent gifts from readers in New York ($10), Indiana ($5) and Tennessee ($30) -- plus another $5 from a long, long, long-time donor in a state he doesn't identify. With advertising sales, these contributions bring me to 32% of my goal. But, uh-oh: The quarter's already 37% over! The breakdown:
  • Reader donations: $309
  • Advertising: $990
I'm trying to earn $4,000 quarterly, through donations of $5 per reader, plus advertising sales. Please use the PayPal "Donate" tool in the green rail, upper right. Or mail cash and checks payable to: Jim Hopkins, 584 Castro St. #823, San Francisco, Calif., 94114-2594.

  1. Considering how management never tells you anything until you're out the door, I would have thought Gannett Blog readers would be more generous in donating to Jim's blog. Crow bar your wallet and tip the guy $5 or more.

Jim asks for $5 a quarter--I donate five bucks a month. Perhaps if everyone did that, he would attain his goal...

  3. Here is an interesting discussion. Even though mist readers here kove their Gannett Blig, mist still don't pay fir it. What us it going to take to get web users to accept pay walls fir content they love? The very future of most media companies, including GB, depend in readers accepting pay walls. What is it going to take?

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
