  1. Expect a HUGE spike in morale at the News Journal in Wilmington. Stoney LaDouche grants "permission" for a second casual dress day for the fabled feed the minions Operating Committee BBQ day for the staff. Do you suppose the $500 they hiss away on the BBQ comes right out of his personal $250,000 annual bonus?

  3. Wow, if the trolls are forecasting a soaring stock price, things must be really truly miserable in this report we are going to hear about Monday. Look at the stock market today and if you haven't got out, reconsider your strategy because time is running out.

  4. I'd prefer a raise instead!

  5. They should move the BBQ up to Cherry Hill. We've got Red Hot & Blue expanding in this town, and it's wonderful. Best BBQ I've ever had.

  7. Trolls are still in Coventry. They won't get out until we get an apology and a public apology, too.

  8. I so love these company e-mails, especially when it includes a bold-faced lie like "He is also looking forward to taking your question".

Join Gannett Chairman and CEO Craig Dubow for a companywide audiocast at noon (ET), Monday, July 18, following the company's second-quarter earnings conference call at 10 a.m. (ET) that same day. He'll discuss second-quarter earnings and other company news. He also is looking forward to taking your questions. To tune in and to send your questions before the audiocast, click here.

  9. @ 9:50 "Good" is definitely the first adjective I think of when I hear the name Gannett. Wouldn't Bad Gannett being doing more if they redistributed Craig duBable's $9.4 million bonus back into the company?

  10. Not listening. Trolls still in Coventry. Need a public apology.

  11. Ohio House Speaker William Batchelder said in Columbus Wednesday that it is time for State Rep. Robert Mecklenborg, R- Green Township, arrested in April on a DUI charge, to step down.

Finally, the Enquirer has a folo today by political writer Howard Wilkinson. That's fine, but that story only responds to the speaker of the house's comments. Where's the digging into Meclenborg's background and the story really surrounding the DUI stop in April. Readers deserve better than the crap the Enquirer has been serving.
Here's some questions for Carolyn Washburn, the Enquirer editor that readers have a right to know and as their daily newspaper you should be telling them.
    1. How often did he got to the Indiana gentleman's club? Put a reporter in the club and let the questions begin?
    2. What was he doing with a temporary Kentucky license tag on his car? If he's living in Kentucky, what's he doing serving in the Ohio House?
Why no mention about the Viagra in his blood stream? You think he took it so he'd be ready by the time he got home or was it because of the young lady in his car?
Why haven't your reporters talked to her?
Have you talked to his wife? Are they even living together?
    Is he in rehab?
There are plenty of questions here, Carolyn, so let's get started answering them. This guy is (or was) as powerful politician. The readers of the west side and Southwest Ohio expect answers on his apparently bawdy behavior. If you're not going to give them to them, why are in sitting in the corner editor's office?

  20. 2:28 no one knows. Just some biased loser who doesn't like what certain people say so they're repeating the same nonsense over and over to and calling people with legit sources and information trolls (see arnold garson update). I'm about to call spammer on this one-- that or paid corporate monkey.

  26. Can some one verify that some of the Gannett properties are moving toward a 4 day work week? And is this in lieu of future layoffs? When will they begin and will the hours be longer or short with a decrease in benefits?

  28. Sorry to bore everyone who struggled through this, but the technical term for the above is called a logic trap, and the corporate trolls today walked right into it. Once inside, there is no way out (as you can read) but to give in, or withdraw. So in the future, stand up to bullies when you see something illogical or that you know is wrong, and send the trolls off to Coventry. Coventry is in England, but the Cherokee Indians seem to have understand it as well because they left us the Brere Rabbit story:

Reno did the four-day workweek for its artists, four 10-hour shifts of being "creative." Like machines.

But the remining were retained at five shifts; myself in particular now scheduled for a half-shift on Tuesday so I would work the "extra" time, free of overtime, for the rest of the week.

I went along with it. I had tremendous respect and empathy for my immediate supervisor,a really good guy. The guys on his ass to keep the figures at a false 40? None.

Thanks, those who get that guy. It's depressing. I'd rather have a beer with this dude. Yet it's all "anonymous." I post my name, challenged to do so; it's mocked and mocked falsely.

I's still have a beer with that dude. He could give me a ride in his Audi. And probably wouldn't.

Not to distract from a topic, I do think that dynamic is very important regarding the veracity of Jim's blog itself.

I say wail away, either way, at situations, circumstance of positions. I am not attacking the people occupying them; I am describing what their actions look like.

I try to take people at their word no matter their context. The "cracker" thing, it's silly to respond to it. Maybe that dude is uncomfortable with natural bodily functions. Who knows? All I've seen is crap. Pun intended.

Yet it's what Gannett is now. A pun intended. We can all see the evident hostility.

People overwhelmed in a profession, a love, which is some corpse, shaken, kept in a room.

I think Gannett, unless Virginia is suddenly savvy, will be pink mist. We get sprayed. They get billions. It won't stand.

  37. I noted the trolls seemed to be particularly active around the time of the quarterly reports, spreading disinformation for some reason I could not understand. I thought it could be some effort to prevent GCI from sagging on the stock market, and dampen employee moves to sell based on rumors that the report was not going to be good. That's the reason I wanted until today to give this a test, since GCI is releasing its returns Monday. The stock didn't fare too well today on the market, so we wait to see what happens Friday, and Monday. I thought a little sunlight might serve as a disinfectant.

  39. "Clueless" Sevier7/14/2011 6:09 PM

I've Gannett stock. All this while, while no one else in my department or the next still held any. Even to a one, that ones who were assumed to.

I am dumping it on morn. I spent too much time being addressed as if an ass by those types.

It's sad. But even while listenin' I've reached the point of fuck off. No more empathy for those of note in Their Own World, dishing out ice cream as if the staff were children, some ultimate reference of professionalism, hungry monkeys an' all.

  46. The problem with the SEC is what the Bernie Madoff case showed: they are just not aggressive. They sat on clear evidence of Madoff's wrongdoing for eight years before Madoff himself turned himself in and admitted to the FBI he ran a Ponzi scheme. Unfortunately we have a lot of government agencies that are not working properly, and I do not know why this has happened. But I think you are seeing some effort to address this issue in the debt-limit negotiations that are underway. Why is everyone smiling if these White House sessions have been so unproductive. My old reporter instincts are kicking in and I think something big is up.

    ReplyDelete
  47. 7:01 If you are going to be conspiratorial about it, look at how the Murdoch-News of the World scandal now has spread from England to the United States, where the FBI is now reportedly investigating the WSJ and NY Post. The difference between England and the United States is they don't have a First Amendment, and also different libel laws. England relies instead on parliamentary privileges which allow lawmmakers there freedom to say anything they want in parliament, which is what makes CSpan sessions of parliament so interesting.
So which company is the big defender of First Amendment rights, and which company now has been exposed involved in what looks like an insider campaign to manipulate its stock price? And which company has been found suppressing news of a Cincy lawmaker's arrest?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Why would the SEC monitor this blog? They have huge computers at the SEC, but they monitor stock price fluctuations and only look for discrepencies. To get to this blog's speculation about stock prices, the SEC would have to have the capabilities of monitoring the entire Internet. We have had these discussions before, and I don't think GCI stock analysts look at this blog except on occasion if they even know about it.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
