Silence is leaden on Corporate's Twitter page

Here's a screenshot of Corporate's Twitter feed; note that the most recent entry is from yesterday -- and it's not about impending layoffs:

  1. A very hard, callous fact: I doubt that the corporate GCI "family" from the ground floor up really cares about what's going on outside the world of McLean.

  2. No press release from Pence. No official word anywhere. Not that I blame them. What's to say?

  3. 1. As previously stated, there will over 5,000 employees removed from payroll this year. This is phase one.
    2. Gannett Digital is going through a major re-org and will include a few hundred more people.
    3. Salary freezes and additional furloughs will be decided soon.
    4. Pointroll continues to miss their numbers and Gracia is doubting current management team's ability to perform.
    5. Major executive "retirements" still to be announced.
    6. Gannett has lost over a dozen major regional advertisers in the newspaper division. Top 65 accounts is now top 50.
    7. Gannett-Yahoo Partnership is being reconsidered and looks like the sales team will be reshuffled yet again.

  4. Deal Chicken was saved!!! What a fucking joke!

  5. Why would Robin Pence do a press release? Why would Robin Pence do anything at all except pack her boxes. Banikarim is ready to cut and she's the first to go.

  6. Corporate is just not understanding this new technology, whether its this Twitter example, or how to employ Deal Chicken so it doesn't disrupt traditional print sales arrangements, completely missing the Riot Romeo uproar, to normal news judgement deciding on stories to play up, and finally for failing to confront this blog and properly present their own public image. They are all just dullards, and Corporate is rewarding the least socially atuned of the lot for being as socially atuned as they possibly can. They need fresh new blood at the highest level, and not just Maryam and Payne, but others from the outside who see how its done and begin to put it in place.

  7. The most terrifying thing I've seen My Boss post, ever:
xxxx Gannett has lost over a dozen major regional advertisers in the newspaper division. Top 65 accounts is now top 50.xxxxx
Wow. Classified has already left and now from the other side the really deep pockets are looking elsewhere. Wow. Why bother even publishing the community papers? Are they just going to be reduced to living off circulation revenue?

  8. Look at the circ revenues vs adv revenues comparing that ratio today to what it was a few years ago at the papers. Circ used to be a small percentage of total revenue. Not the case today--just another reminder of how far ad revenues have declined.

  9. The bigger issue is where is Dubow? As the CEO, all communications start and stop with him. Want to reassure employees? Let's hear from the CEO.
All directives on what any corporate comm department can and can't say come from senior management. True at any company.

  10. 6:47 Obviously Dubow has handed everything over to Gracia. About six months ago, My Boss had items about Dubow taking early retirement, but he obviously didn't do that and seems to be now just coasting from day-to-day doing nothing. It is very unusual for a corporate executive to be so quiet, but as I think we all clearly realize, this isn't the way ordinary corporations work.

  11. 6:36 Yep, you got it. You spotted the trend. We are heading towards newspapers that will be supported largely by circulation, instead of ads. Trouble is that they are cutting back on hours people can call and complain about not getting their papers, or outsourcing complaint functions. That, in turn, is certain to accelerate circulation declines.

  12. 8:22 AM, circulation as a revenue model only works when readers are willing to pay for the product.

  13. 6:47, a reminder to you and all: Dubow always was - and still is - controlled by Martore's puppet strings.
