Sponsors | Gosh: It's looking like a nail-biter!

[Updated at 3:52 p.m. ET.] Now, with only three days remaining, I'm at $3,702 $3,570 -- or 93% 88% of my quarterly goal. That includes three donations this afternoon from Michigan ($20) Delaware ($30), and Minnesota ($25). Thank you! The breakdown to date:
  • Reader donations: $1,509
  • Advertising: $2,193
I'm trying to earn $4,000 quarterly, through donations of $5 per reader, plus advertising sales. To pay by credit card or PayPal, please use the "Donate" tool in the green rail, upper right. Or mail cash/checks payable to: Jim Hopkins, 584 Castro St. #823, San Francisco, Calif., 94114-2594.

  2. My blog is the newspaper industry at the micro level: most readers don't want to pay for content, and advertising revenue only goes so far.

  3. I'm among those who happily send $5 each quarter (more when I can afford it). Keep up the great work.

  4. Joe Namath called; he wants his Fu Manchu mustache back.

    No, make that Hulk Hogan.
No, make that Ming the Merciless.

  5. Dubow got an 80 percent pay increase, so you should expand your horizon and impose a cost increase. Remember, you have customers in a stranglehold. There is no major competition to your blog, so you can charge what you want to.

  6. 10:20 Exactly. Impose a price increase, cutback content, post fewer items, throw in ungrammatical sentences, steal items on Hollywood starlets from Perez Hilton, give readers promotional stuff on new products lifted from press releases, and Jim could coin millions.
