Reno | Lee Enterprises' Maher named publisher

From a statement Corporate released this morning:

Gannett announced today that John F. Maher has been named president and publisher of Nevada's Reno Gazette-Journal. He was publisher of Lee Enterprises’ Lincoln Journal Star in Nebraska, and senior executive manager for Nebraska Strategic Business Unit, which included the Journal Star, three other daily newspapers, a number of weeklies and their associated digital assets. He held those positions since 2006.

Maher succeeds Ted Power, who was named director Jan. 21 of Gannett’s new Design Studio in Des Moines.

“John is a proven media company executive who brings a great track record of innovative accomplishment to the Reno Gazette-Journal and to the greater Reno community. I'm delighted to bring a publisher of John's caliber and experience with multi-platform delivery to this market,” said Bob Dickey, president of GCI's U.S. newspaper division.

  1. "Proven," "great track record," "innovative accomplishment," "multi-platform delivery."

I wonder if Bob Dickey realizes he sounds like a cliche-ridden buzzword machine? This is the type of quote or soundbite that immediately makes me stop listening. Cue the "wah, wah, wah," teacher from the Peanuts cartoons. This new publisher may be great, but you'd never know that from Dickey's inane corporate speak.
