PointRoll | You can see 'A Gannett Company' . . .

. . . on PointRoll's website, but only with an electron microscope.

  1. Looks like Gannett doesn't want that franchise to be branded so closely ... I WONDER why!?!

  2. journalism at it's finest. right here, folks!

  3. Catherine Spurway-Hepler, the SVP of Marketing and Stategy at PointRoll said to a bunch of us here, that "over my dead body" will we put "A Gannett Company" near our logo! Looks like Robin Pence won.

Pointroll is so screwed up right now that no one knows who is in charge. It is ironic that the year that Gannett puts it's brand underneath PointRoll's logo, is the worst year of Pointroll in history!!!

    Bravo!

  4. @12:25 AM: It would appear that the journalism is better than your spelling.

  5. Has anyone looked at Pointroll's website on an iPhone or an iPad? You cannot get to it at all. I guess the darling of Gannett isn't that Digital afterall.

They talk a lot about mobile, but Pointroll can;t even render their site on a simple iPad. Nice job PointRoll!!!

8:15am is correct. Pointroll is supposed to be teh most "digital" of all of Gannett's "RANDS" and they cannot even build a website viewable in any mobile device! Pathetic.

  8. Head of technology...the man "Tuz" just quit and is joining TubeMogul with Max Mead.

Big loss for Pointroll and apparently more people are quitting next week.

  10. Really? Maybe you don't know how to operate your phone. When I type in PointRoll.com I am redirected here PointRoll.com/m/ -- looks pretty sweet to me!

  11. Is it just me, or does anyone else think the pointrollers are a bunch of whiny crybabies?

I'd give those people one day in the trenches of any daily and they'd crumble.

  12. How much money was wasted putting together the 100 page guideline? 100 pages? A tree had to die for this?

  14. Looks like Scott Stopper, Head of IT, also just quit and is heading to a "definite competitor" according to the big man. Scott will be missed as he is the brains behind this well oiled machine. Good luck Scott!

  15. Who cares about pointroll. A bunch of whiners and overpaid losers from Philadelphia. I feel sorry that Gannett has to put up with this company.

  16. MARCH 15 is only 7 days away from receiving our payment from Gannett. Screw all of you Gannettoids!!! Do something and sell some newspapers.

  17. Just because you can't open pointroll.com on your iPad, iPod, iPhone and iWhatever does not mean all mobile devices are unable to render the site. I'm sitting here with my android based mobile phone with it open. No problem at all.

  18. Irony...

On a website devoted to whining and bitching calling out the most profitable Gannett business.

It's not your fault you are unemployable journalists and the techno geeks are raking in the dough. A noble profession no longer - journalism is more an infliction anymore.

Produce some economic value and you too can become "overpaid" in the eyes of the incapable.

  19. From what I've read, the technogeeks are the ones leaving in droves to be overpaid elsewhere.

Irony... is that words on paper still provide the vast majority of revenue and profit for the company - but the geeks who suck up that dough with miniscule relative results have never picked up today's edition.

  20. The job market is starting to open up. Tech is always the first segment; as it's the most competitive.

Gannett should be less worried about Pointroll. It's already toast. What they REALLY need to be concerned about is print. It's already bare bones thanks to horrible management. And it's on the verge of a mass exodus.

Let me explain in simple terms. Sales departments across the company will clear out. This will put a huge strain on already dwindling revenue. Corporate will be forced to gut what's left of Editorial to compsensate, and that will send the USCP into a death spiral. Without that cash flow, and an entire segment of the corporate portfolio the company won't be able to meet it's debt obligations. They will be forced to sell what's left at a firesale or into the arms of bankruptcy.

  21. @7:26AM-Well said. It's already happening at my location. 11 sales reps have left in the last 2-3 months. That's more than what left in the previous 2 years.

    ReplyDelete
  22. @7:48

BFD, 11 sales reps. They probably moved to a digital company to make a better commission.

I wonder where in the world you could find more print media sales people?

Face it, they're second rate at best due to the opportunity to earn based on the overall industry, not Gannett.

Really, is it Gannett that blows or is it the industry? This blog and its audience really seems to be punching waves. Bitching is satisfying to the individual but ineffective.

  23. Stopper’s leaving hurts. He drove technology and was one of the keys to Pointroll’s innovation. On the sales side we will definitely miss him. He helped close several deals. Stopper was one of the go to people at Pointroll and could come up with a solution no matter the issue. Agree with 8:33 PM, Good luck Scott!

  24. There will be a lot of sales people bailing out of Gannett. Unlike a lot of long-time print people, sales folks have immediately transferable skills.

If you can sell newspaper space, you can sell a car, real estate, etc., etc.

Sales is all about knowing your product and listening to your clients' needs.

  25. Can someone confirm Scott Stopper left, for sure? He is the BACKBONE of PointRoll, no matter what bs SL tries to sell us. Would be a huge loss if its true.

    ReplyDelete
  26. HAHAHA That is so funny, if Scott has resigned PointRoll is sooooo screwed!! Tuz and Scott in one week, those are two devastating blows, but wait you guys do have Sandy and Oafer, they can easily replace the knowledge lost when those two leave.... NOT!!! That’s like replacing Einstein with Curly Howard … I think I hear Taps being played as the SS PointRoll slips under the waves.

  27. CareerBuilder and ShopLocal don't even seem to mention Gannett on their site at all. USAToday.com seems to only have changed their home page. The application of the branding is SO uneven across all the "properties".

WE were given until 6:00 AM the Monday after the branding was announced to get our logos updated. That's 3.5 business hours! Everyone else has already had over a week and I don't see much change if any.

I guess we should take it as a compliment; we must be so valuable to Craig! ;-)
