Pop Quiz | What product does this business sell?

In a written statement announcing the appointment of a new manager, a top executive of a U.S. company said the following yesterday:

"________ is an experienced advertising executive with a solid track record of building sales and competitive market share. He will be an important member of our team as _______ continues to expand the ways we provide business clients with customized solutions and engage consumers."

  1. No, it's not Procter & Gamble announcing a new brand manager for Tide laundry detergent. It's Bob Dickey, announcing a new publisher for The News Journal in Wilmington, Del.

  2. Am I missing something? I could have swore that the Phila. Enquirer went bankrupt.

  3. Did he even look up as he read from it? Is that statement on a laminated 3x5 card to protect it to be used again for future announcements in order to save this company money on newsprint and paper costs?

  4. So, Hopkins, what's your point is what?

  5. What happened to NEWS? How about the First Amendment?

  6. That's just how the information is centered.

  7. Jim, you are missing wildly with this one. 2:33 has it right.

  8. Yeah, I really don't get the/your point on this one. NEWS? First Amendment? What the what? What else do you say there? Looks like a case of the pot (Jim) calling the kettle (Dicky) black.

  9. If you don't get the point and you're working as a journalist, please leave the field. You're not qualified because of your lack of critical thinking skills. In fact, I'd expand that to say this: please don't read this blog because you'll only get frustrated. You, pal, need to stick with reading Gannett's press releases or watching some weather channel on TV. We each bring different skills and abilities to this world. Recognize that this blog and its contents don't match yours.

  10. I love people like 9:03. Disagree with them and you instructed to leave. So much for free speech. So I guess his/her point is this is a Blog for people that despise Gannett. At least we now have clarification.

  11. In the more than three years I've been publishing this blog, I've only asked one person to stop commenting. He was, maybe still is, a notorious poster whose only purpose was to hijack conversations. He signed his comments. I haven't seen his work in a long, long time.

  12. You're confused again. I didn't instruct you to leave. I merely suggested that this blog is outside of your skill set and comprehension. Do what you want. Keep making an ass of yourself or don't. I just feel sorry for you, and was trying to gently lead you to some sites that may be better suited for your abilities, expecially when it comes to critical thinking and analogies. That's all. Sorry to have offended you. And, pal, about free speech----oh never mind. I'm done dealing with you. You just don't get it.

  13. 12:46 I "get" it just find. I called you out, exposed you and you took your ball and went home. Next free speech opponent please.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
