Digital's Resnik on 2011's money-making focus

In a Q&A published today on Programming Blog, Josh Resnik, vice president over the Gannett Digital Network, talks about competition, aggregating audiences, and selling advertising. An excerpt:

Q. So what will your focus be on in 2011 in terms of monetization?

A. Two things: Targeted audience segments (like moms or parents) and devices. There’s so much going on with mobile content, especially. We expect to build up USA Today’s presence on a variety of devices in 2011, including Google TV. I just saw a demo of USA Today for Google TV, and, I really think that device is going to change the way all content owners think about TV. We’ll also scale out more of our local content for devices as well.

  2. I think Josh's response should have been..."My top focus for 2011 will be to look for a job since I just was snubbed by Gracia Martore and have been told I will not be the next Chief Digital Officer."

    The focus on Moms or Parents is so old school. And Google TV?!? WTF. How many people actually have that or will have that in the next 12 months?

    The digital team is really lost. They should all be thrown out.

  6. Building Project Odyssey should be a priority, instead of stroking Kevin Poortinga's fragile ego everyday and letting him move back to Indy, while the rest of us have to clean up the mess.

    Another priority for Josh should be that he should spend more time in the office and get to know his team. No one even knows this guy or what he does.

    Another priority is to STOP giving away our 5 billion monthly ad impressions to a bunch of remnant ad networks at less than $0.75 cpm!

    Another priority should be to get his head out of Gracia's ass since it hasn't gotten him promoted and it can't be too comfortable for him.

    Btw, the last time we heard from Gracia was the first week of May. She promised us that they were going to "immediately find" a new Chief Digital Officer.
