Springfield | Greiwe's promotion leaves a vacancy

Newspaper Network of Central Ohio President Linda Greiwe's promotion to publisher of Missouri's Springfield News-Leader was announced yesterday in a Corporate statement that didn't identify her replacement.

Greiwe (left), who has been with Gannett since 1987, also was named West Group vice president, with responsibility for the U.S. Community Publishing markets in Mountain Home, Ark.; St. Cloud, Minn., and Sioux Falls, S.D. Her new job is effective Oct. 11. [Updated at 10:05 a.m. ET on Sept. 30 to correct name of Arkansas city; it was incorrect in the original statement from Corporate, but I should have caught that first, since I'm a sorta former Arkie!]

She replaces another long-time Gannett employee: Thomas Bookstaver, who is retiring, effective Oct. 8. He has been with GCI for 37 years.

  1. There really isn't much need for a replacement at the Gannett central Ohio papers, at least not anyone Gannett would send there and Heaven forbid they'd be deranged to the point of filling it from any of the incompetents at those papers now.

It is better left empty. Less damage done that way.

  2. That really is a glaring error. Baxter, AR is 265 miles from Mountain Home. It still hasn't been fixed in the press release.

Maybe too many cuts in corporate communications? We're all feeling the pain.

  3. It has not been fixed in the press release in the link, if you go to the gannet website it has been fixed. Was also told that The Springfield News Leader listed it as Baxter, AR also, idiots they print the paper and don't know who they print for.

  4. 12:09 ... i think you might try spelling Gannett correctly if you are going to call anyone else an idiot.

  5. I predict that Central Ohio will be rolled into Cincinatti.

  6. There´s something odd in the new division of West Group responsibilities here. Can anyone elaborate on a shift among the VPs -- an promotion here, a demotion there?

  7. @12:09, I may of spelled Gannett wrong, but I managed to spell The Springfield News Leader correctly, and I at least know what town it is located in. The only thing the people in Springfield worry about is how to take jobs from other Gannett properties so they can keep their jobs.

  8. 7:26, I'm going to take a wild guess that you have not worked at the Springfield News-Leader. Yes, the folks there are as worried as anyone else at Gannett about keeping their jobs ... but do you really think anyone among the rank and file there had ANYTHING to do with the establishment of Gannett's credit and collection center there? Or perhaps the printing of the Baxter Bulletin moving to Springfield? What next, are you going to blame the people in Des Moines, Louisville, etc., for stealing the page designers' jobs? I guess I just disagree with the name-calling because I know there are many fine, intelligent and highly overworked people in that newsroom. Peace...

  10. I heard the one going to Ohio was the ad director for over four years. The three directors he had working in his tenure all left on him.
