In a memo yesterday, Senior Vice President Roxanne Horning did not explain why Corporate has chosen the Xerox subsidiary, Affiliated Computer Services, as the new manager for 401(k), medical and life insurance plan administration, effective Oct 4.
Under the subject heading of "enhanced employee benefits platform," Horning says only: "We think you’ll like the new 401(k) and health/life Web sites under ACS. They are easy to navigate and provide a number of new services."
Horning's memo confirmed an earlier report on this blog.
ACS is replacing Hewitt Associates, which has managed many of Gannett's HR services for as long as I can remember. The switch comes as Corporate reorganizes its entire HR management structure, with further details coming around the same time ACS assumes benefits management.
Horning's letter references an attached brochure. A number of Gannett Blog readers, in a bit of gallows humor, noted that the brochure includes prominent references to ways "inactive'' employees can contact the new benefits center.
Starting Oct. 4, ACS replaces Hewitt Associates, which has been manager for as long as I can remember.

ReplyDeleteHewitt is nationally recognized benefits administrator. I've never heard of this group, has anyone else? Personally, as the wife of a Gannett employee not far from retirement, I'm worried. With no information on what they will offer or what employee costs will be, it's hard to know whether this will be good for us or not. Clearly, it is good for Gannett. If they are saving a lot of money, it might be a case of getting what you pay for, hope someone has more info.

ReplyDeleteThis new site has been a nightmare. There was a "glitch" according to a manager in the Little Falls NJ operation. It took me almost three weeks to sign on. Then when having a problem interacting with Quicken (Hewitt performed flawlessly) I used live chat. I was told that he couldn't help me. At that point I said, "wow, can you get someone who can help me." His replied that he didn't appreciate me being disrespectful then went on verbally(in writing) abusing me about it. On several phone calls I was connected with people in the Philippines. I forwarded the text of the chat to Corporate. I wonder what good it will do. I have since found why quicken does not work seamlessly. ACS opts not to have it work that way. You have to do price updates manually. Purchases of securities can be downloaded and updated, however ACS downloads don't reflect the cash transferred into the account from a paycheck entered into Quicken. A real nightmare with lots of extra key strokes, I still don't have it working smoothly, but will keep you posted.
ReplyDeleteI was transistioned in October 2010 from USAT and shortly after enrolled in Cobra. I believe Hewitt managed Gannett's program throughout my 21 years of employment and I have experienced zero issues with them. The only time I contacted Hewitt was to re-enroll. I have now had the misfortune of dealing with ACS, the company Gannett has placed in charge of all our benefits. From December 2010 through today, it's been a nightmare for myself and my family. Too many phone calls to remember....asking for billing statements, asking for correct billing statements, dependents mysteriously fallen off from coverage and array of other missteps by ACS. To be laid off after 21 years of service was difficult, but for me having to deal with this nonsense from ACS has been the worst experience of the separation with USAT. I know I'm not alone in how I feel about ACS.
