The company said it had appointed Craig Etheridge as vice president of mobile advertising sales for Gannett Digital.
Etheridge (left) was most recently vice president of emerging platform sales at The Weather Channel, where he was responsible for sales of its mobile product portfolio.
In a statement, Corporate said Etheridge will be responsible for "further expanding Gannett's mobile advertising portfolio and developing long-term mobile ad sales strategy."
Corporate doesn't say whether Etheridge is replacing someone, or taking a newly created position.

Best of luck to Craig. I worked with him at TWC and he was truly a great guy to be around. He definitely knows his stuff.
ReplyDeleteI just hope that Gannett's often-stagnant pace when it comes to new media doesn't stifle him.
Ok. So this guy leaves the weather channel mobile sales to join Gannett mobile sales. TWC is a mobile monster. Why would someone leave TWC for a bunch of lame newspaper mobile sites with no technology? According to Paul I at TWC, there is no love loss between TWC and Craig (wonder who did the reference checking for Gannet on this guy). Seems like if they are hiring a Chief Digital Officer to replace Saridakis, this would be a role that he/she would want to hire or bring into the company. Afterall mobile is critical for all Digital execs!
ReplyDeleteThe real question is, who does he report into? Dave Hunke? Andy Jacobson? Josh Resnik? Gracia Martore? Or Matt Jones? Or all of them? Looks like Matt Jones just got his job taken away from him.
Let's put this into perspective. Gannett's overall revenue for 2010 will be less than $3 million (with over 20 FTE's working on mobile).. This new position screams "conflict"!!!!
Good questions. My first thought was he'd report to Leslie G., but that probably wouldn't make sense.
ReplyDeleteNo one knows who he is reporting into or if he is calling on all the accounts we are calling into. This is so poorly handled by Martore that we are just laughing about how little she knows about sales and sales management.
ReplyDeleteI can say that the USAT sales team will not embrace this new guy as he has no media relationships.
def not reporting to Leslie G.
ReplyDeleteLeslie G. - LOL! You're funny, Jim! Really! ROFL! That's a good one!
ReplyDeleteHe reports to Andy Jacobson
