In a tweet posted just moments ago, Furlough House Swap co-creator Yuri Victor writes: "I'm leaving Gannett to work with an outstanding team at The San Diego Union Tribune. Heck yes!"
Via Facebook, Victor (left) tells me: "My last day at Gannett is the 24th and I'll be starting my new job on July 5th. I wanted to return to news and development. The Union Tribune gave me an opportunity. My title will be Product Design and Development Manager."
Victor came to Gannett in November 2008 as product design and development manager, from The Times of Northwest Indiana, where he was innovation strategist and product development manager.
Among his unofficial Gannett projects, Victor may be best known on Gannett Blog as one of the brains behind last year's clever Furlough House Swap, where employees on unpaid leave could exchange homes for free "furcations."

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."

ReplyDeleteSince Saradakis departed Gannett, there has been a mass exodus of digital employees. I heard that [XXXXX] is resigning soon. I was at a meeting the other day and people were speculating who the next person is going to leave. [XXXXX]'s name came up and someone said that he is fed up with Craig and Gracia lack of digital knowledge and appreciation for the business.
Apparently Ms. Gracia Martore is giving out massive retention raises to the Digital staff. Rumors are that the PointRoll managers are receiving multi-million dollar payouts this year if they stay.
Looks like the grass won't be greener for Yuri on the other side ... layoffs planned at his new newspaper ...

So her thinks San Diego is a step up. haaaaaaaa. These guys are going to reinvent cost cutting!
ReplyDeleteYou drones should do some research. Yuri gets brought in at places that plan to reinvent through cuts. He is a type of poison pill.
ReplyDeleteYuri was great to work with, and it will be tough to fill his shoes. I wish him well in sunny San Diego.
ReplyDeleteAny truth to the rumor that Peter Lundquist is leaving Gannett/HSS.net for a marketing firm in DC area?
ReplyDeleteThere are many unfounded rumors about Digital personnel moves, in the wake of Chris Saridakis' departure on April 30. Treat all such postings with considerable skepticism.
ReplyDeleteFunny Jim, outing your sources this way. Since when have you ever, ever, ever made note of a departure this far down in the organization?
ReplyDeleteYuri, maybe not My Boss Said, but a real source that we are now beginning to see. How do you Digital folks feel about that?
I don't reveal sources.
