That's the latest estimate by new Honolulu Advertiser owner Oahu Publications, which is consolidating the state's two largest daily newspapers into the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. The combined enterprise is expected to employ between 450 and 500 workers once the papers are merged next month, the Honolulu Star-Bulletin says today.
Oahu Publications Dennis Francis said yesterday that the company should retain about two-thirds of the Star-Bulletin's 300 workers and about half of the former Gannett staff of 580 at the Advertiser.
Gannett completed the Advertiser's sale on May 3.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
